One-Off Feature

A beautifully refurbished period property with access to a private stretch of river on the edge of Cockermouth in Cumbria.  With beautiful interiors, garden vistas, fishing on tap, and the delights of the northern Lake District on your doorstep, this is a fantastic and family friendly holiday property.

General Info

Owned by the same family for generations, North Lodge has a private access to the River Derwent which provides excellent fishing opportunities for anyone who’s keen.  Guests of all experiences can try their hand at fly fishing along the local riverbank, or a little further afield.  Our ghillies can offer plenty of support for both beginners and experienced fishing enthusiasts - equipment and a picnic lunch can be provided on request.  In the right conditions, the river provides good runs of salmon throughout the summer and autumn, and there is excellent sea trout fishing in the summer months.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

There is lots to do in the local area for all interests and ages.  All of the northern lakes of the Lake District are only a short drive away so the opportunities for walking, hiking, cycling, kayaking and paddleboarding are plentiful!  Cockermouth itself is a pretty Georgian town with plenty of independent shops, pubs and restaurants, and second hand / antique shops where you can while away an afternoon.  Also nearby is a host of beautiful villages and local pubs.  Families might enjoy a visit to the Lake District wildlife park, and the Lakes Distillery and National Trust Wordsworth House are also nearby.  A 15 minute drive will get you to the coast at Maryport, with its beach, marina and maritime museum.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The house can accommodate up to six people in three bedrooms.  The front porch has plenty of space for wellies, and there’s a classically tiled entrance hall which leads into the living room.  Plush sofas and cosy decor make this an excellent space for relaxing in the evenings.  There’s an additional living area with double aspect windows looking out onto the garden, with a period fireplace and wood burning stove.  There’s a vinyl record player in this room with a good selection of old records.  The kitchen has a luxury heritage feel, a modern range oven, Belfast sink and is superbly well equipped, including a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.  The main dining table is in the conservatory which has high ceiling skylights and patio doors to the garden.  There are three king sized bedrooms upstairs, each individually styled (beds can be reconfigured to create twin rooms if required).  The main family bathroom is upstairs, and there’s an additional shower room downstairs.

Exterior Details
There is a large patio area and garden, with table and chairs making it ideal for alfresco dining when the weather allows.  The garden is fully enclosed with stock fencing and has far reaching views to the fields and countryside beyond.  There’s a wooded path which leads to a private section of riverbank surrounded by woodland which guests are welcome to use.  Private off road parking for up to three cars.
