Luxurious and eco-friendly, Henllys Lodge is a spacious, peaceful, warm and welcoming house with a lovely garden and beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
The Lodge is a detached house which has been extensively rebuilt and redesigned with the environment in mind - solar roof panels and ground source heat pumps provide the majority of the hot water, there is under floor heating throughout the property, and sheep’s wool insulation keeps things warm and cosy. The house is set in the heart of the Carmarthenshire countryside, on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. This is an area of exceptional landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage, home to UNESCO designated Fforest Fawr Geopark and a haven for walking, bird watching, cycling, riding or visiting castles, gardens, woodlands, nature reserves and historic houses. Henllys Lodge is ideal for families, couples or groups of friends who want to relax and explore this beautiful part of Wales.
The house is adjacent to a country lane and farm access road, so there is some noise from passing vehicles. Llandovery has all amenities, including restaurants, banks, a post office and shops. When you arrive, you will receive a welcome basket from Just So Scrumptious, an award winning deli selling organic and local foods, and you can also order packed lunches from them. You can order meat and/or a breakfast hamper from Mathews Butchers. The local supermarket is the Co-Operative and food deliveries are available from Asda/Tesco. There’s a regular Farmers Market in Llandovery on the last Saturday of each month and another in Brecon.
Getting There:
Henllys Lodge is about 2 miles outside of Llandovery on the lane towards Cilycwm and Siloh. The nearest railway station is Llandovery.
Interior Details
The house has four bedrooms, three of which are double (two with en-suite wet rooms) and the fourth of which has single bunk beds. There is also a separate bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. The ground floor is open plan - there is a lobby entrance where coats and boots can be left, the large kitchen/dining room has modern energy-efficient appliances and all the cooking equipment and utensils you’ll need, and there is also a downstairs WC. In the middle of the living room is a double-sided wood-burning stove so you can stay cosy in the colder months, and here you will also find a 40" LED television with Freeview, a DVD player with a selection of DVDs, a CD player with iPod dock, a table football table, a selection of games and puzzles, and lots of books, including maps and guides of the area.
Exterior Details
The kitchen opens out onto a Welsh slate patio area with garden furniture and a barbecue. There are flower beds planted with native plants which flower at different points throughout the year and a lawn leads down to a pond which is teeming with wildlife from fish and frogs to newts and water lilies. There is a double swing for younger guests. Keen bird watchers will spot red kites and buzzards soaring overhead, and you can fill up the bird feeder to attract nuthatches, green finches and woodpeckers. There is private off-road parking for at least 3 cars and a locked shed to accommodate bicycles.
Further Details
The beds have allergy-friendly mattresses and bedding; we encourage recycling and composting and eco-friendly cleaning products are used throughout. See the website for a full description of the house’s green credentials.
