One-Off Feature

Nestled in rural Somerset sits Cossington Park, a beautiful house and cottage with a long and fascinating history. Whether you’re here for a celebration, a reunion, a corporate event or a peaceful retreat, you’re sure to enjoy the beautifully decorated bedrooms, the exceptional service, and the abundance of activities both on and off site.

General Info

The park is split into two separate properties – a six bedroom house and a three bedroom cottage. Home to the owner’s ancestors for more than 300 years, the house is full of furniture and paintings that reflect the family’s history - the bookcase in the drawing room was carved by a relation, the wheel supports in the library were taken from the owner’s grandfather’s ship and the 5,000 books have been collected by successive generations since the late 17th century. In short, the house is filled with stories. And if you’re here in a big group, the cottage annexe can provide the space and privacy you need while still enjoying the history and character of this delightful residence. With its informal friendly atmosphere, a dedicated and caring team of staff, and a gorgeous village location, there isn’t much not to love about this place.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The main house has six bedrooms - three bedrooms are in the oldest part of the house (Chaucer, The Nursery and The Trusty Servant) and the other three are in the 1901 wing (Jolly Monks, The Cobbler and The Pump Room). All the bedrooms, most of which are named after their unusual bronze doorknockers, have period furniture and are thoughtfully decorated. The house also has 4 good bathrooms. On the ground floor you will find the drawing room with its old oak beams and French windows, the dining room which seats 22, a library full of books and the farmhouse-style kitchen complete with larder, scullery and pantry. There are log burners in both the library and the drawing room.  The cottage has three bedrooms (one of which is on the ground floor) as well as a family bathroom and a kitchen/diner/living room which extends out onto the private decking.

Exterior Details
The extensive grounds house a whole variety of gardens and corners. These include the Tilting Yard (a small pretty garden in front of the house), the Main Garden on the south side of the house, a small (fenced) pond, an Orchard (a meadow with old apple trees, mature limes, abundant cowslips, a bog garden and a wild garden), Bushey Close (a field beyond the Orchard), a Walled Garden, a games field with football, basketball, badminton and a children's play area, a barbecue, a Kitchen Garden and ponds which are abundantly supplied with newts. The cottage has a private garden with dining furniture and a BBQ.  EV charging point available for guest use.

Further Details
The house and gardens are looked after by an excellent team and we provide a generous hamper of local foods, carefully chosen wines and locally produced apple juice on arrival. We can offer superb cooks if you would like someone to prepare for a special occasion and a natural beauty therapist if you need pampering. We can arrange a variety of special events and activities from horse-drawn carriage rides, archery and falconry in the gardens to a hot air balloon over Cheddar Gorge. We also offer the services of All Being Well (co-founded by the owner of the house), which provides mediation, coaching, leadership and other personal and business development services. We work hard to support our local community and to do our bit to help the environment. Cossington Park is non-profit-making. All revenues are ploughed back into the estate so that it may be enjoyed by future as well as present generations.

Conditions of Rental
Check out time is 10am, check in after 4pm. There is off-road parking for at least 9 cars. The house has oil-fired central heating and the cost of oil and electricity is included in the rental price. Open log fires may be lit in the Library and we will supply logs, without charge (there is a log-burning stove in the Drawing Room). The house is non-smoking. Well behaved dogs are welcome. To maintain the large gardens in pristine condition, our gardener needs to work throughout the year. She is sensitive to the need to respect the privacy of our guests and will tend to avoid grass-cutting and other activities close to the house when the house is occupied.
