Positioned right on the seafront in the historic seaside town of Selsey in Sussex, this wonderful railway carriage conversion captures all the charm and eccentricity of the great British coastline. If you're in search of railway carriage holidays, then there's no better place than this.
The house is built around two lovingly restored 19th century Stroudley railway carriages - this is a place to come if you're in search of unique holidays! They were originally used on the Brighton to London line and then after the First World War they were converted into holiday homes along the Sussex coast. Each of the coaches has been carefully adapted and makes the most of the original features to create cosy quirky living spaces. As for the setting, this is as close to the beach as you can get and the uninterrupted views from the verandah are simply wonderful.
Selsey is the most southerly point of West Sussex, about 6 miles south of Chichester. Beachside cottages here will offer you plenty to do, from fishing, diving, golfing, cycling and boat tripping to visiting the lifeboat station or the Pagham Nature Reserve. There are numerous excellent places to eat - The Lifeboat, The Blacksmiths, The Crab and Lobster and The Cider House to name but a few – and there are also several places to shop for groceries. Further afield, West Sussex is rich in things to see and do. Visit Chichester Cathedral or the Portsmouth Maritime Museum, dig around at Petworth Antique Centre, walk along West Wittering Beach, explore Fishbourne Roman Palace, see some history at the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum, visit Goodwood, or wander round the lovely West Dean Gardens.
Getting There:
Selsey is a 2 hour drive from London, close to 2 international airports and within a stone’s throw of Brighton and Portsmouth. A car is not essential once you're there, as you're virtually on the beach, and the shops and playground are less than 10 minutes away. Chichester railway station is about 20 miinutes' drive.
