One-Off Feature

This charming cottage with the unique addition of a London South Western train carriage attached to the side, is in the village of Portesham,  just 3 miles from the Dorset Coast.  It is in a secluded location yet close to the centre of the village.  With a garden looking to the hills beyond, a bright 1960s themed kitchen, the nostalgia of the attached train carriage and the delights of Dorset on your doorstep, it is a great location for a holiday in Dorset.

General Info

The house is situated in a secluded location close to the centre of the village, and has delightful and well planted gardens to front and back, full of colour and interest during the summer months.  The house has great charm, and is filled with light, looking down the long garden to the front and across the roofs of the village and towards the hills behind at the back.  Recent work has included stripping the floors and replacing fitted carpets with sisal and other rugs, as well as creating a bright 1960s theme in the kitchen.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

Portesham itself is well situated for a great Dorset coast holiday as the coastline is only 3 miles away.  There is an excellent pub, the Kings Arms, just around the corner from the house with a large garden, and just beyond, on the main road, there is a large and well run farm shop. The village is situated on the Jurassic World Heritage coastline, just behind the remarkable Chesil Beach and within easy walking distance (along an old railway) to Abbotsbury, famous for its ancient swannery and superb sub-tropical gardens.  To the east is Weymouth with its large sandy beach and formal attractions, such as the SeaLife Centre, and a few miles to the north is the county town of Dorchester that also has a good range of attractions as well as the huge and impressive Neolithic earthworks of Maiden Castle nearby. To the east, beyond Abbotsbury and just a few minutes’ drive away, is another beach at Burton Bradstock, with Bridport, (renowned for its great Saturday street market) and West Bay harbour beyond. The Dorset coast scenery is renowned for its beauty and variety, whether seen from the Portesham to Bridport coast road or visited on foot.  There are fabulous walks direct from Roselands, including a memorable walk up the hill to the famous Hardy’s Monument that offers the most fantastic views far and wide.
