Esk Broch is on an exclusive development of luxury self-catering accommodation on a family farm in Scotland. The collection of brochs and steadings have wonderful views across the river South Esk towards the Angus Glens and onto the Cairngorms. Sustainable and bespoke accommodation with an indoor pool, spa and tennis court on-site, and the delights of Angus on your doorstep.
Imagine a place which combines history and sustainability with luxury and contemporary design, a place that offers not just rolling farmland and country living but also mountain views and deserted beaches. With private features and a range of modern shared facilities, the setting is unbeatable. Where better to rest your head after a day exploring the beautiful rural county of Angus? There are six different accommodation options at Balbinny. A two bedroom cottage and two grass roofed brochs, each sleeping four people, and three steadings built with corrugated roofs and recycled stone which can sleep up to six people each. The brochs nestle into the landscape, whilst the larger steadings make full use of the outdoor space with their glass fronted heated balconies. All the accommodation is contemporary and luxurious. The use of renewable energy throughout means the whole set up is eco friendly and sustainable.
The site is set among rolling farmland in the centre of Angus, between the market towns of Forfar and Brechin. It’s ideally placed to explore the often deserted beaches of St Cyrus and Lunan Bay, and for exploring the Angus Glens. Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen and St Andews are all within a one hour drive, and the capital city of Edinburgh is just a 1.5 hour drive. Angus and the surrounding area is home to over 22 golf courses (including two Open Courses in St Andrews and Carnoustie), all within driving distance. You can go land yachting and beach kayaking at Lunan Bay, skiing at Glenshee, and explore the hiking and biking trails in the Angus Glens. There is excellent salmon and trout fishing on the River South Esk. For those who are interested in history, you’ll find ancient Pictish stones along the footpaths at Balbinny and it’s just a short walk to the ruins of a Roman Fort. The childhood home of the Queen Mother, Glamis Castle, is 20 mins away, and Dunnotar Castle is a 40 minute drive.

Interior Details
Esk broch is nestled by the pond at the foot of the wood. From the outside, reclaimed stone from the original farm steading and grass roofs mean the broch blends seamlessly into the landscape. Inside, the broch is stylish and modern. There are two ensuite bedrooms. The master bedroom has a super king-size bed, flat-screen TV and a large rainwater shower in the bathroom. The second bedroom can be set up as either a twin or a king, and has a feature bath. The open plan kitchen and living area combine wireless Sonos music, oak worktops and wood-burning stoves, while still maximising the beautiful view of the Angus Glens through large French windows. The onsite glass-fronted fitness suite and pool are available for all guests to use. The fitness suite has a good range of cardio equipment with zoned wireless music, and bi-fold doors open out onto decking with amazing views to the Angus Glens. There is an 11.5m indoor pool and jacuzzi, also making the most of the beautiful surrounding views and open from 8am to 9pm. There are changing rooms, including an independent disabled or family changing area.
