One-Off Feature

A small collection of beautifully designed bothies in a glamping site set among 200 acres of magical woodland in the Yorkshire Wolds.  This is an opportunity to reconnect with nature, marvel at the starry nights and leave the daily grind behind.  The perfect place for a family glamping holiday, couples break or group glamping weekend.

General Info

Accessed by one small private road, this glorious woodland spot feels far away from busy urban living.  Let this wonderful retreat weave its magic, enjoy the surrounding sounds of nature, spot deer in the woods, gaze at the stars and play board games by candlelight.  The owners were some of the leaders of the UK’s glamping revolution, helping to transform our experience of the great British outdoors, but this wonderful woodland camp is truly something else: magic, original and authentic.  If you can bear to leave the woods, you’re close to the beautiful city of York and just 5 minutes from Stamford Bridge where you can get provisions and a pub meal.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The glamping site is in a fabulous location, 15 minutes from the outskirts of historic York.  There are endless things to do in and around the area.  The woodland itself is home to the Northwood Fairy Trail, weaving its way through the old fairy paths in the woodland, with gorgeous tiny treehouses and a museum bursting with fairy artefacts.  Also on site you can try out ‘shinrin’, forest bathing, a Japanese concept which has become a cornerstone of healthcare and healing in Japanese medicine.  Den building is a great on site option, as well as bug hunting and building fairy houses.

York is a great place to visit - full of great bars, restaurants, shopping and attractions.  The Baroque mansion of Castle Howard is just 20 minutes from the camp (used as Brideshead in two adaptations).   Also a 20 minute drive is Eden Camp, and old Italian prisoner of war camp, and the York Maze, also 20 minutes away.  Yorkshire is a magnificent region boasting sublime countryside, vibrant cities and a rich culture and heritage. There are two national parks to explore as well as a beautiful coastline, and (aside from London) there are more Michelin-starred restaurants here than anywhere else in the UK. The local village, Sancton, is home to an award-winning pub, there are several other excellent eateries within the local area (the owners have top recommendations) and there are lots of other activities available nearby, from polo and gliding to golf, water sports and clay pigeon shooting. Sledmere House and Burton Agnes Hall are both well worth a visit, the wild coastline at Flamorough Head is just 30 minutes away, and York and Beverley are both known for their shopping and for their races.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
Each of the bothies has two double bedrooms, as well as a double sofa bed (all bedding is included and the beds are made up for you).  They also each have their own bathroom with toilet, shower and roll top bath.  There is a kitchenette with a two ring gas hob, all the crockery and utensils are provided, and there’s a fridge for your cold provisions.  There’s a wood burning stove inside and instant hot running water.  The site uses minimal electricity and an increasing proportion of energy usage is renewable. LPG is used to heat water (more efficient than electricity). Spent water is sent to a bio digester or reed bed and then released into the ground on site.

Exterior Details
Each bothy has a large raised veranda for enjoying the views of the surrounding woodland.  There’s a BBQ on the veranda plus a seating area for eating and drinking al fresco.  There’s a communal tea tent, woodland kitchen and bar just a couple of minutes’ stroll from the camp.  There are also electrical points here for charging devices.  Wood fired hot tubs are available to hire from a local supplier.

Conditions of Rental
Arrivals Mon / Wed / Fri.  Single nights are sometimes available on a Sunday.  25% discount for couples bookings.  During school holidays only couples and families are allowed at the camp.  Adult groups are welcome outside of school holidays.  Minimum stay 3 nights on bank holidays and over Christmas / New Year.  10% early bird discount if you book more than 20 weeks before your arrival date.  Sorry, no dogs except assistance dogs (due to the wildlife in the woods).  Please note there is mobile reception here, but no wifi.  Electricity and lighting are limited, though the bothies themselves do have lighting.  You may wish to bring a lantern or torch for moving about at night in the woods. Open all year round - the accommodation is warm and comfortable so you can enjoy all seasons, whatever the weather.
