One-Off Feature

The Lookout Tower is in an amazing location on the top of Beer Head cliffs in East Devon, with panoramic coastal views stretching from Portland Bill to Start Point.  Walking distance to the beach as well as the nearby fishing villages of Beer and Branscombe, it’s an excellent choice of holiday accommodation for groups of 4-6 at any time of year.

General Info

Records suggest the site has been inhabited since the late 1700s, first as a signal station for the Napoleonic war, and later to look out for smugglers and as a coastguard lookout.  The original structure of the building has been almost entirely preserved, and an extension added.  The renovation was done with the environment in mind - the tower has an air source heat pump, solar panels and borehole water, and bee bricks and swallow cups have been incorporated into the build.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The tower sits right on the south west coast path so walkers are in heaven here.  It’s a 10 minute walk (through an SSSI - Site of Specific Scientific Interest) to the secluded Hooken beach, and the beaches of Beer and Branscombe are also just a short walk.  There are a couple of pubs and a cafe in the village of Branscombe which are well worth a visit, and the village of Beer has restaurants, shops and pubs.  There are National Trust properties to visit, the larger towns of Sidmouth and Seaton, and areas of outstanding natural beauty for you to enjoy.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The property has two bedrooms, both of which are on the ground floor.  There’s a king size double and a twin room (zip and link so can also be a king), and the bathroom, which has wet room layout and tropical rain shower is between the two bedrooms.  Each bedroom has a TV, fitted wardrobes and underfloor heating, as well as Egyptian cotton bedding.  The kitchen is on the first floor and has Neff appliances, and a Quooker tap (instant boiling water, chilled filtered water and carbonated spring water all on tap!).  It’s well equipped with all the necessary appliances, crockery and cutlery (including a bean to cup Smeg coffee maker) and has access to the outside terrace.  There’s a telescope available to borrow which is great for stargazing (and projects onto the bedroom TVs).  The second floor is home to the living room and has simply astounding views.  There’s comfy, wraparound corner seating, a log burner, a wine cooler to save the journey downstairs, and a pull out occasional bed.

Exterior Details
The first floor has a terrace where you can enjoy the superb sea views.  There is a private landscaped garden with a Devon slate stone wall with BBQ, outside storage, and plenty of space for children to play.  There is ample parking and a complimentary EV charging point.  There is a cabin in the garden which contains a sauna, along with an extra toilet, hand basin and an outside cold shower.

Conditions
£500 deposit required on booking with balance due four weeks before the start of the holiday.  Check in from 3pm.  Checkout by 10am. Sorry, no pets. Please note that Wifi is currently a 4G data SIM, though improved broadband is due soon.   The water supply is borehole water.  Accessibility - doorways are all wide enough for a wheelchair, the shower room is a wet room and each floor is connected by a pneumatic vacuum operated lift (the lift is not large enough for a wheelchair but a seat is provided).
