One-Off Feature

An idyllic glamping hideaway set in a tranquil village next to the Blackdown Hills in East Devon.  Perfectly suited for couples, families or friends, the yurt and its adjoining cabin are in a wonderful peaceful rural setting, yet provides all the mod cons and home comforts.

General Info

The yurt is set on a ¼ acre site which runs alongside the River Weaver - more of a stream in summer, and a small river in winter.  You’re afforded a real sense of tranquility and privacy - the site is not overlooked and is in a lovely, secluded woodland spot.  It's perfectly set up for outdoor living, with chairs and tables where you can sit and enjoy the woodland views, and an outdoor living space for relaxing in.  The yurt is open all year round and is super cosy at any time of year.  Inside the yurt the woodburner, electric blankets, fleece duvet covers and extra blankets will keep you toasty on a chilly night.  And outside the garden lounge has an integrated fire pit and a roof so you can enjoy being outside even in the rain.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The yurt is next to the Blackdown Hills, which is an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) so there’s no shortage of lovely countryside walks, starting from the hamlet of Kerswell. Rhododendron Woods is at the top of the hill and well worth exploring.  You can also walk across the fields to the thatched village of Broadhembury and enjoy a pint in the local pub there.  There are several pubs within 2 miles of the yurt.  Village shops in the villages of Broadhembury and Kentisbeare (5 mins drive), or larger shops in Cullompton town (10 mins drive).  Within a 30 minute drive you can get to the Jurassic Coast at Beer and Branscombe, as well as the beaches of Exmouth and Sidmouth.  Or venture inland to the pretty Devonshire villages, or the cathedral city of Exeter.  There are lots of family friendly attractions in the vicinity including Crealy Theme Park, Killerton House National Trust property, Wildwood Escot and Seaton Tram.

The living area has two armchairs and additional floor seating in keeping with the style of the yurt.  There’s a small collection of books and games.  The log burning stove to keep the yurt cosy during colder periods.  In front of the yurt is the kitchen / dining / bathroom cabin.  The kitchen is fully equipped with electric hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge with small freezer compartment, and all the necessary utensils and crockery.  There’s a table and four chairs.  The shower room (with hot water)  is at the back of the cabin through a beautiful Balinese door.  The flushing toilet (and sink) is in a separate hut tucked away behind the yurt.  Both the yurt and the cabin both have full mains electricity, plug sockets, lighting and wifi.

Exterior Details

A little beyond the yurt is a pergola and additional decking area running alongside a stream.  There’s an outdoor wood fired pizza oven and a fire pit area for evenings of marshmallow toasting and stargazing.  There is also a sauna cabin, tucked in amongst the trees next to the stream which can be used for up to one hour per person per day.  Parking available for up to two cars.

Conditions of Rental
A complimentary basket of seasoned wood is provided and additional wood can be bought from the owners (or you’re welcome to bring your own).  Children are very welcome but need to be supervised at all times - please remember that the yurt is in a rural setting with a stream alongside, and many parts of the site have been left natural and wild.  Sorry, no dogs. The yurt is open all year round.
