Light, spacious and stylishly furnished, this is a sensational setting for a truly memorable countryside getaway.

General Info

What was once a Georgian manor has now been lovingly and thoughtfully transformed into the ultimate retreat, perfect for groups of friends and family celebrating special occasions, with unparallelled panoramas and private access to Lake Windermere.  

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

There is endless outdoor fun to be had, both on the estate and in the surrounding countryside. There are 5,000 acres to stroll around, and anglers can enjoy our 2.5 acre private lake stocked with wild brown and rainbow trout. The Lake District is a haven for walking, mountain biking and lake cruises, you can try off-road driving and hot air ballooning or you could go fishing at Esthwaite Water fishery. Graythwaite Adventure teach bushcraft skills on the estate, Grizedale Forest (home to walking and biking routes, as well as Go Ape (the high-wire forest adventure)  and Segway tours, is nearby, and the YMCA National Centre, just 5 minutes away, offers kayaking, archery and climbing among other things. And if you’d prefer a gentler pace, visit the picturesque and historic village of Hawkshead, the busy market town of Ulverston, the homes of Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth, and the nostalgic Haverthwaite Steam Railway.

Getting There & Local Amenities

Getting There:
If you are coming by car, take the M6 to junction 36 then join the A591 to Kendal, Barrow and the Lakes. After about 4 miles you’ll see a sign for Barrow A590; leave at this slip road and stay on the A590 following signs to Barrow. After about 10 miles you’ll enter Newby Bridge. Go straight across the roundabout and after 400m turn right, up the west side of Lake Winderemere, signposted Hawkshead. You’ll drive over a small bridge and past the Swan Hotel and Spa. Continue on this road for 7–10 minutes. You’ll pass a YMCA on your right. Continue for a couple of minutes and you'll see a small white sign on your right for GRAYTHWAITE. You'll then see Low Graythwaite Hall on your left. Turn right into a private road directly opposite Low Graythwaite B&B to arrive at Silverholme.

Interior Details
The house has eight bedrooms, each of which has its own special character. The Coachman's Cottage which comes with the house also has a bedroom. Light and spacious with views of the lake or mature woodland, they all boast smartly-finished en-suite bathrooms, big comfortable beds and distinctive furnishings. The drawing room, with its vibrant walls and floor-length windows with views towards the lake, is perfect for relaxing and socialising, and the grand dining room, with marble fireplace and portraits set on deep-coloured walls, is a room made for entertaining in style. The library, equipped with a card table and board games, catches the morning sun and enjoys views over the gardens, the TV room has big comfortable sofas as well as a 50-inch television with surround sound, and the kitchen, with its long table, glass doors and exceptional views of the lake, is handmade and fabulously well-equipped. All in all, no stone has been left unturned!

Exterior Details
The gardens below the house sweep down to the shores of Lake Windermere and just outside there is a perfectly positioned viewing spot where you can dine al fresco, soak up the sunshine or simply enjoy the sensational scenery. The house is approached via a private road through mature woodland and is set on Graythwaite private estate. The estate comprises 5,000 acres of lakeside, forest and woodland, all of which is yours to discover and enjoy as a tranquil retreat for walks, and as an adventure playground for land and lake activities.

Further Details
In addition to the eight bedrooms in the main house, Silverholme is also home to the Coachman’s Cottage, an original coaching house in the grounds. It has a comfortable sitting room, a modern kitchen, a bedroom with double bed and an en-suite shower room, and it enjoys lovely views of the lake and the little island where silver treasure is rumoured to be buried. This is a perfect little bolthole for two. We have a newly-converted barn which is available for events, we can host and plan weddings, and the estate is the perfect setting for corporate seminars and workshops as well as for house parties and holidays. Whatever your ideas are, we can help you achieve them.

Conditions of Rental
You can arrive anytime from 3pm onwards. Departure is by 10am. The price of the accommodation includes electricity, central heating, logs from the estate, hot water, cleaning, cots and high chairs and bed linen / towels. We welcome children of all ages. A 30% deposit is required and the balance is due 12 weeks before your arrival date. We also require a security deposit.
