One-Off Feature

Set in magical Victorian gardens, and with a tennis court and indoor pool, Great Tangley Manor is a grade 1 listed medieval manor house nestled on the edge of the Surrey Hills, less than one hour from London, which has been a dwelling for over 1000 years.  Where better to spend a relaxing weekend away from the pace of modern life. The perfect group accommodation for a family celebration or a friends catch up.

General Info

The first mention of Great Tangley Manor was in the Domesday Book in 1086 where it was described as a Royal Hunting Lodge, and then throughout the 13th and 14th centuries it was inhabited as a Medieval Hall House.  When alterations were made in the late 1500s, some of the timbers from the Armada fleet were incorporated into the design and can still be seen today in the dining room panelling.  It is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a large and luxurious residence in three acres of beautiful grounds.

There is a large lake, mature specimen trees, a moat and a courtyard with fountain and pond.  There is also a hard tennis court exclusively for guest use between 9-5 each day.  The structure of the present gardens was devised by Wickham Flower at the end of the 19th century when he and Philip Webb, a famous architect, set about restoring them. They were both part of the Arts and Crafts Movement and the garden at Great Tangley Manor was recorded as being one of the most progressive gardens of the 1880’s.  There is space for 15 cars to park in the driveway, as well as two Tesla & one Type 2 Destination charger for complementary use by guests with EVs.
