Summer holiday in Mallorca - head to these glorious One Off Places farmhouses with family and friends
One of the shining stars of the Mediterranean, Mallorca never fails to seduce. Glorious beaches, azure seas, remote hilltops, historic towns and a simply stunning coastline; even in peak season you can find pockets of silence if you want them. It's with good reason that Mallorca tops the holiday charts. In the south east of the island, two beautiful farmhouses, each set in large grounds with private pool and sea views, and both of which still have good spring and summer availability.
A short walk brings you to the traditional hill village of Alqueria Blanca with its bars, shops and restaurants; a ten minute drive and you can be lounging on a sandy beach and dipping your toes into the Med. The nearest beaches are very family friendly; they slope gradually into the sea and have beach bars, sunbeds and fixed beach umbrellas for hire. For the golfers in the group, there are several excellent courses to choose from within a short drive.
Both farmhouses are set in more than 5 acres of land filled with almond, citrus and fig trees. Each has a large swimming pool - with a shallow end and optional childproof fence, as well as terraces with a BBQ, and shady spots where you can sit back and enjoy the sea and mountain views.
The smaller of the two farmhouses sleeps ten people in three double and two twin bedrooms. All the bedrooms are en suite, the large living space and farmhouse kitchen simply ooze character with beamed ceilings and thick stone walls, and the farmhouse even includes an elegant music room with original tiled floor. Two of the bedrooms have their own terrace, and there is also a table tennis table and garden house in the grounds.
The surrounding countryside is characterised by fields of trees and small villages, with birdsong and sheep bells providing the soundtrack to daily life. Both farmhouses have the dramatic mountains of the Sierre Levante as a backdrop, and views of the Mediterranean sea from the terrace.
The larger farmhouse can sleep 11 people in three doubles, two twins and a single bedroom, and there are four bathrooms. The characterful living space opens out onto the terrace and pool and the house is furnished with a combination of antiques, traditional textiles and local tiles. Three of the bedrooms open out onto their own terrace, from where you can enjoy the spectacular views.
