One-Off Feature

A former stable block on the Ashley Combe estate, this glorious semi-detached cottage is in the Exmoor National Park in Devon, just a mile from Porlock Weir and has stunning sea views across Porlock Bay from the house and garden.  It’s an excellent choice for a family holiday, with the delights of the north Somerset and Devon coastline on your doorstep and just a short walk from the beach and the coast path.

General Info

The Ashley Combe Estate was once the summer home of the computer pioneer Ada Lovelace, who was the daughter of the poet Byron.  The estate has a long and fascinating history including eccentric owners, architecture, literature and groundbreaking scientific endeavours.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The pretty harbour of Porlock Weir, just one mile east from the cottage, is a former fishing settlement with views across the Bristol Channel.  It is now home to boutique shops and the thatch roofed Ship Inn.  Head west from Ashley Combe and the South West Coast Path climbs through Yearnor Wood to Culborne Church, England’s smallest complete church which dates back to the Saxon era.  You can follow the coast further into North Devon to Countisbury and Lynmouth 10 miles further down the coast.  If it’s sandy beaches you’re after, then Woolacombe is a fabulous beach to visit.  You’re also in the heart of Exmoor here with its high open moorland, woodlands and dramatic coastline.  Exmoor is famous for its red deer and Exmoor ponies, and there are masses of activities on offer in the vicinity, from horse riding and cycling, to kayaking, fishing and boat trips.  Nearby historic Dunster is worth a visit for its Norman castle, local walking trails, and numerous dining options.
