La Maison du Pain is part of an extensively renovated farmstead nestling within the rolling Dordogne countryside in France. Set within 10 acres and home to a glorious range of flora and fauna, it is a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers. A peaceful escape, yet with endless activities and places to visit on your doorstep and exclusive use of the site's facilities.
The property is centrally located for a wide range of holiday activities and boasts numerous onsite facilities (of which you will have exclusive use) that includes private use of the large heated swimming pool, together with its superb summer kitchen. The local town of Rouffignac St Cernin offers a good selection of amenities, including restaurants, shops and that all-important boulangerie. La Perode comprises three detached buildings and a separate pool area, with around three quarters of the land given over to natural wildflower pasture and the remainder made up of unspoilt oak and mixed forest.
5 minutes away is a world-famous grotte that is part of one of the most extensive underground systems in the region. A subterranean train takes you over 2kms into these caves, which are listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. The nearby towns of Le Bugue, Montignac and regional capital Perigueux offer comprehensive shopping and tourist attractions, whilst world-famous Bergerac and the beautiful medieval town of Sarlat are easily accessible within an enjoyable hour’s drive. Whilst offering many spectacular attractions, the wonderful Dordogne valley can be more than matched by the prehistoric Vezere river valley. Whether your interests lie in natural or cultivated gardens, shopping, golf, horse riding, hiking, river pursuits, ancient sites, churches, food (and drink) or even hot air ballooning, you are coming to the right place. One unmissable joy is canoeing (or kayaking) down either the Vezere, Dordogne or Dronne rivers - one such in the Dordogne valley passes beneath several famous chateaux including Baynac and Castelnaud, and passes through the eye-candy village of La Roche Gageac.
