One-Off Feature

Situated within a working steam railway station near Northiam in Sussex, the Emerald Express is a former newspaper van which has been painstakingly transformed into one of a collection of beautifully presented railway retreats. Accommodation doesn’t get much more original than this!

General Info

Built just before the Second World War, this railway van used to deliver newspapers every night from London to the South of England - now it is a stylish and contemporary space for up to 5 guests. The accommodation itself is clean and inviting, with a mixture of quirky original features and modern comforts. The setting, with real steam trains pulling up just a few feet away, is completely unique and totally unforgettable. And the surrounding Rother Valley countryside is full of activities and attractions for all the family. The Emerald Express is now one of a collection of train carriage holidays and is the perfect base for both relaxation and exploration.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The lovely beaches at Camber Sands and Hastings are a short drive away from these railway carriage holidays, as is the characterful waterfront at Rye Harbour, and historic attractions like Battle Abbey, Great Dixter House and Gardens, Bodiam Castle and Sissinghurst Castle are well worth a visit. Children will be in heaven at the Blue Reef Aquarium, Drusillas Park and the Smugglers Adventure museum, and there are outdoor pursuits galore at Bedgebury Pinetum, Bewl Water and Bodiam Boating Station.
