One-Off Feature

On a slope of Serra do Sicó, right in the centre of Portugal, old Aldeia de Cima had been abandoned for over seventy years or so, before it was discovered by the owners who fell in love with its unique beauty and decided to bring it back to life.  It is now home to eleven self contained cottages, and surrounded by wonderful grounds.

General Info

Carefully respecting the spirit of the region, old construction techniques were used to recover the limestone block walls covered with ochre lime to preserve the ecological, aesthetic basis, ensuring absolute comfort throughout the year. Its basic concept lies in well being, peacefulness, quality and authenticity. Here, one will find time and serenity for reflection and the supreme privilege of doing nothing.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The weekly markets in the local towns are great places to have a look at the local arts and crafts, especially the wicker basketry and patchwork quilts. Here you can also purchase wonderfully fresh food and drink – the region is particularly well known for its honey, Rabacal cheese, walnuts and wines. There are lots of walking trails nearby, some even starting from your doorstep. There’s a wonderful river beach nearby with natural swimming pools to swim in, great picnic spots and a lovely restaurant. The Atlantic coast is only 45km away so enjoy some time at the beach while you’re here. The town of Penela is well worth a visit, especially its castle and church. Vale das Buracas is another must see. The buracas are spectacular geologic formations which, for its dimension, impresses any visitor.

Further Details
The design of Villa Pedra was inspired by the triad of Roman villas which dominate the region. The Romans settled in this region and developed important urban centres; Villa Pedra is in the middle of these. So, to the north, you will find the most famous Roman ruins in Portugal, Conimbriga. To the East, Villa Romana do Rabacal, and to the South, Villa Romana de Santiago da Guarda. Each site is well set up to welcome visitors.

Reservation deposit: 30% of the total amount. Minimum stay 2 nights.  Villa Pedra does not accept any kind of pets. Breakfast and a daily cleaning service can be provided at an additional cost.
