It's quite a trip to get there, but the further you get away from Lisbon or Algarve, the closer Paradise gets. The location couldn't be any better: the rooms and the dining room all face Santa Clara lake, an unspoilt place, perfectly quiet and peaceful. Just a few steps and you can dive in it's clean and warm waters, sail or paddle in one of the Quinta's boats or canoes. Laziness can attack you without warning. Then, reading or taking a nap become the most radical sport to be done. This same laziness seriously recommends that you stay for lunch, and you won't regret it, since the meals are always different and delicious. It's a great place to stay and it's staff can't be more kind and helpful. It wasn't my first time and I'm sure it won't be the last.

If you are looking for somewhere to get away from everything then this is the place for you, all you need is a good book and the rest is guaranteed, Wonderful peaceful rural location which feels like a home from home though without all the chores. The food and wine are great and meal times are relaxed. The local cork forests provide wonderful opportunities to look at the local birdlife.

This is a must for those who want a tranquil and relaxing break. The view from the hotel was spectacular. The location could not be better. The rooms are clean, simple and very comfortable with en suite bathrooms. The atmosphere is friendly. Local village is charming and takes 20 minutes to drive to. The hotel overlooks a huge lake which can be reached by walking down a few steps where you will then find an area where you can relax and swim as well as take out a canoe or small boat. Meals are catered for throughout the day in a very nice dining area where you have a wonderful view. This is the perfect break for those who want to get away from everything and experience some paradise!

Frank McClintock's Quinta do Barranco da Estrada has everything: sun, shade, quietness, laughter, delicious food and a selection of wines that celebrate his fascination with ornithology. There are a thousand places to get away in his paradisical terraced garden which leads down to a lake which is more of a playground; with canoes, sailing boats, pedaloes, and gentle swimming to nearby islands. We especially loved the dogs: Sideways, Molly, Pesca, Meiktila and Honey. Once you're there - why leave?

This is a well organised, welcoming operation taking a real interest in looking after it's clients. The host team provide good food, accomodation and advice about the surrounding area. The owner has developed the site over two decades and has sensitively suited the building and gardens to the very beautiful surroundings. He is an expert ornithologist providing practical advice on, for example, the best chances of seeing great bustards. Whilst the food is good there is a nearby pousada for (much) more expensive eating! Wonderful walking country.
