Chateau Charly is a luxury eight bedroom suite (sleeps up to 16) property set in 32 acres of gardens and parkland on the edge of a stunning French village, and is perfectly located to enjoy all that the Cher Valley and the Berry region has to offer.
Whether looking for a stopover on your way south or a holiday in a chateau, we are perfectly located to enjoy all that the Cher Valley and the Berry Region has to offer. The Chateau is in the picturesque village of Charly; a stream runs through the centre of the village lined with weeping willows. Walks around the Chateau grounds or in the area are a great way to unwind and relax. If you want to treat yourselves, the chateau has an English speaking French chef who is available to come and cook dinner for our guests. She charges 37 E per head excluding wine.
The interesting medieval town of Bourges is almost the geographical centre of France and is the perfect location for a holiday in a chateau. The town is filled with a wealth of restaurants, bars and cafes lining its cobbled and winding streets. 'Son et Lumiere' is a free lights and music show, which you can wander round on a warm summer evening. The region is well known for its produce, namely wine and goat’s cheese. Stop by one of the many vineyards around the picturesque hill top town of Sancerre and try some of the wine. This area has a large variety of interesting Chateaux – from small and private to grand and open to the public. For those interested in a more active holiday the Cher Valley has much to offer. The world famous Formula 1 French Grand Prix Circuit at Magny Cours is about 40 minutes drive. There are five golf courses within easy driving distance of the Chateau. The countryside is fantastic for cycling.
Getting There:
There are five airports within a three hour drive; Paris (3 hours), Tours (2 hours), Limoges (2.5 hours), Poitiers (3 hours), Clemond-Ferrand (2 hours). Bourges or Nevers are the closest mainline train stations. It is possible to hire a car outside Bourges station or take a train to Nerondes which is 10 mins drive from the Chateau. If arriving by ferry, the drive takes about 5.5 hours from Calais.

Chateau Charly has 8 luxury bedroom suites which are let on a self catering or Chambres D’Hotes basis, (Bed & Breakfast) with evening meals by arrangement. Each of the suites has an en suite bathroom, some with freestanding baths, and all are spacious and beautifully decorated. There is even a suite with a king sized four poster bed. One of the suites can be booked with an adjoining bedroom. Approached up old stone steps the double front door opens into an impressive reception hall. A beautifully restored wooden staircase gently meanders around to the top floor with the bedroom suites and Library. The Salon is designed for friendly relaxation and comfort. There is a large screen TV and music system. There is Wifi access provided in this room for your convenience. The dining room has views over the South lawn - there is an impressive fireplace taking centre stage. Breakfast is served in here – a wonderful assortment of meats, cheeses, breads and croissants. 3 suites are downstairs and are disability friendly.

Situated in 32 acres (almost 14 hectares) of gardens, impressive mature trees and parkland, this castle holiday offers serenity and tranquility surrounded by all nature has to offer. There is a recently installed 10 metre open air swimming pool heated by Aerothermal energy. It is situated in the Orchard, a stone walled area, with many fruit trees; a beautiful setting for lounging around the pool and enjoying the sunshine.

Chateau Charly is set in a stunning location on the edge of the village of Charly, adjacent to the historical village church. Built in 1838, the chateau has been updated to include handcrafted, double glazed oak windows, produced by a local Artisan using timber from this region. We offer guests the timeless elegance of a bygone age subtly blended with antiques and contemporary furnishings, encompassed by the comforts of modern living. The Chateau has a carefully selected range of hand-woven rugs and various pieces of interesting furniture from Afghanistan and India. Our aim is to be as green, self sustaining and environmentally friendly as possible and our orchard and planned vegetable gardens will be totally organic. The Chateau is heated and using the very latest in green renewable technology - Geothermal and Aerothermal energy.
Conditions of Rental
We will be delighted to welcome you anytime after 3pm on your day of arrival and respectfully request you check out by 11am on the day of your departure. Breakfast will be served in the Salle a Manger from 8am - 10.30am. Evening meals will be available by arrangement. Please do also let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements. There is a non-smoking policy throughout the chateau - however there are bins supplied for smokers by the back door on the small patio and by the swimming pool - we would request that all cigarette ends are put into these bins. Animals are not permitted at Charly.
