Looking out onto a quarry lake where there is an abundance of wildlife, Filter House is an old water treatment works building that has been fantastically converted into an art-deco-style waterfront retreat. This is a wonderfully unique property.
Built in 1954 by the South Cornwall Water Board, this building was once a filter room that distributed water throughout the Roseland Peninsula. The flat roof and original Crittall windows remain, but the interior has been transformed into a haven of style and tranquillity, with light fittings salvaged from Czech markets, a 1930s themed bathroom and an authentic Victorian bed bought at a local auction. The setting, on the boundary of the village, is quiet and secluded, and yet you will find a pub and shop within walking distance, and both north and south coasts are within striking distance. This is a rare and historic holiday rental in Cornwall from which to explore the local area.
The property sits on edge of Ladock, a pretty village with several Grade II listed buildings. The village has a decent pub, The Falmouth Arms, and a friendly store that is open 6 days a week, and location-wise it couldn’t be better, with both coasts and the Cornish countryside within easy reach. And Cornwall, of course, has a huge amount to offer, from seaside walks, beaches, water sports and cycling routes to gardens, castles and historic landmarks.
