Child friendly luxury - does it exist? It does at Chateau de Gurat.......
Many parents of young children wonder whether there's any point in going on holiday - same stress, different place, is the general feeling. At a time of life when a holiday is frankly an absolute necessity, rather than a nice-to-have, this seems like a cruel blow. But, step forward Chateau de Gurat, a One Off Place in sunny rural France which will answer all your prayers.
Six gorgeous gites in the grounds of a beautiful chateau in rural France (Poitou-Charentes). All gites are beautifully and luxuriously kitted out and can accommodate from 4 - 6 people each. Each of the gits has a private terrace with BBQ, and within the chateau grounds there is a heated pool (enclosed, bien sur), a smaller children's pool and a superb play area with swings, climbing frame, trampoline etc. A communal Bergerie offers table football, table tennis, games, books and local info.
Best of all, the whole place is superbly family friendly. Play areas - tick. Pools - tick. Home cooked meals available - tick. Wine tasting for the adults - tick. Babysitting on tap - tick.
There's heaps to do in the surrounding area if you can tear yourself away from what's on offer at the Chateau. From vineyards to markets, water parks to river beaches, horse riding to mountain biking, and all point in between, there's no shortage of interest for adults and children alike.
If you're coming from the UK, you can take the overnight ferry to St Malo, from where it's about a six hour drive; you can fly to Bergerac or Limoges; or you can take the TGV from St Pancras to Angouleme (20 minutes away).
In a nutshell, if you're after a real holiday this year, where you can kick back and relax, and watch the children enjoying themselves too, then Chateau de Gurat is the place for you!
Price from £724 - £1928 per week depending on time of year and size of gite.
