Our pick of remote places to stay after the lifting of lockdown
Here in the UK, we're inching closer, little by little, to the gradual lifting of lockdown. As at today, the self-catering holiday industry is hoping to be able to restart, in some form or another, in early July. Of course, things may change, but in our opinion, there's no harm in a bit of dreaming, in the hope of the dream becoming reality. Today's blog post highlights four of our favourite remote properties, three in Scotland, and one in Greece.
Lots of people will be in search of remote self-catering properties where they can enjoy the wide open spaces and fresh air, and crucially, a change of scene! We have lots of these options on One Off Places, but here are a few to spark the imagination.
West Coast Cottage, Scottish Highlands
Situated at the sea entrance to Loch Feochan this two bedroom cottage has spectacular views down the Firth of Lorn. Access is by private track of 1.5 miles. No neighbours, just you, the hills and the sea - the ultimate get away from it all location. It is set in some fifty acres of informal hill land and shoreline giving you some spectacular walking country. The croft and this part of the coastline were used in the 1968 filming of 'Ring of Bright Water' and more recently in the final scenes of 'Enigma', based on the Robert Harris thriller.
The cottage is six miles from Oban. From £780 - £1450 per week depending on season.
Eagle's Crag, Scottish Highlands
Poised in the cradle of Glen Alladale and serenaded by the rush and tumble of the stream, this beautiful three bedroom cottage stands in gentle contrast to the untamed landscape that surrounds it. Alladale Wilderness Reserve’s 100 square kilometres of rugged mountains, forests, rivers and lochs are located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, a 1.5 hour drive north of Inverness. Eagle`s Crag is situated in dramatic Glen Alladale and features panoramic windows on each side of the living area which provide incredible views of the valley and the ancient Caledonian forest. The extraordinary location of Eagle`s Crag is very remote with the nearest other human habitation being Alladale lodge, approx 1 mile away. From £2545 - £2990 per week depending on season. Knoydart Hide, Scottish Highlands
Knoydart Hide is a gorgeously grown up and very secluded romantic hideaway on the Knoydart Peninsula, accessible only by boat. Outdoor hot tub, infra red sauna, antique half tester canopy bed and wow factor for luxury short breaks under the radar. Castaway across Loch Nevis to this stunning new contemporary bolt hole on the edge of Loch Nevis. South facing by design, the house is bathed in sunlight all day long and the wraparound decking, with its gorgeous hot tub, is the perfect spot for a morning coffee, an evening BBQ or an afternoon spent overlooking the loch and watching eagles, otters and roe deer foraging around you. The Olive House, Paros, Greece
The Olive House is an architect-designed rural stone house on the island of Paros in the Cyclades. It is set into a hillside with sweeping views of rolling fields, the islet of Antiparos and the open Greek sea. The three bedroom house is approximately 5km from the fishing village of Alyki. The Olive House offers its guests true seclusion and peace, and is surrounded by spectacular lavender and flowering gardens, and a small private vineyard. Visitors can reach Paros by sea (3½ hrs by high speed ferry from Piraeus port near Athens or much shorter from other Cycladic islands) or air (25 min flight from Athens).
