One-Off Feature

With unrivalled views over the Cabalva Estate, the river Wye and the idyllic Welsh Marches landscape, Cwm Pelved is a lovingly restored six bedroom holiday house offering peace, privacy and exceptional entertaining space with activites on site, and the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains just waiting to be explored.

General Info

The house is situated on the Cabalva Estate, a family-run sheep and beef farm within a beautiful tranquil setting - their pasture-fed Aberdeen Angus beef is sold to some of the UK's top restaurants. Guests are welcome to buy some of the beef and have a tour of the farm. There is a potting studio on the estate where you can have pottery lessons.  Also on site you can do private fly fishing on the Wye, the estate has a ghillie who can offer lessons 1:1 or in a small group.   Dating back to the 15th century and once the Cabalva estate owner’s principal residence, the house has a fascinating history and retains a wealth of original features. And now it has been meticulously transformed into a rural haven of comfort and modern luxury. The expansive interiors are perfect for groups who want to relax and spread out, from the open plan kitchen with a wood burning stove and the traditional living area with oak beams and a piano to the snug with its working fireplace and the conservatory with views down the valley. And the location is unbeatable for enjoying outdoor pursuits and fresh air. If you’re looking for a countryside retreat which combines rustic yet luxurious interiors with a unique and tranquil setting then look no further.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The countryside around here is nothing short of breath-taking and there is much to explore. The fields around the house are full of wildlife, from sheep and hares to woodcock, hedgehogs, robins and red kites, or you could head down to famous Offa's Dyke and walk up into the hills or down to the river. The famous book town of Hay-on-Wye is just 3 miles away, and in the area you can also go cycling, riding, canoeing and fishing. And if you don’t want to self-cater there are lots of excellent places to eat and drink – The Bridge at Whitney on Wye (5 mins drive) or Tomatitos in Hay-on-Wye itself.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The house comprises three interconnecting buildings and the result is a fantastic array of living spaces. At one end is the South Barn, a huge converted double glazed barn which houses a glass fronted double height hall, a laundry area, a downstairs washroom, an upstairs bathroom and four bedrooms, one of which is the master bedroom with a super king size bed, an en-suite bathroom and extraordinary views. From the South Barn you walk through to the Conservatory, a wonderful social space with seating for 14 and dramatic views over the Wye Valley, and this leads on to the enormous open-plan kitchen with its comfy sofas and cosy wood burner. Another glass walkway leads to the main entertaining space, a double height room with oak beams, original windows, a flat screen TV and a piano, and beyond this is a snug with a huge open fireplace. At this end of the house there are two further bedrooms – one en-suite double and one twin.

Exterior Details
Outside the four-sided courtyard is a wonderful sun trap complete with two large picnic tables and the house is surrounded on all sides by rolling fields.  There is a pizza oven and an outdoor fire pit for guest use.  Hot tubs can be hired in on request and for an additional fee.
