The most well-known site in Somerset must be Glastonbury, haven for music-lovers, churchgoers, pagans, hippies and history buffs alike. Mystical Glastonbury is home to the Tor as well as the ruins of the medieval Glastonbury Abbey. Legend claims that Glastonbury is the final resting place of the Holy Grail, and from your holiday house in Somerset, you can visit the county with the closest ties to the mythical Camelot. Somerset is home to a plethora of glamping sites, perfect for a family holiday. Wells Cathedral is another historic draw, with its 13th-century façade and medieval statues. And of course, why brave the notorious Glastonbury Festival in a muddy tent, when you could retire in the evening to your warm, cozy holiday house in Somerset? Families and adventurers won’t want to miss Cheddar Gorge, a dramatic limestone ravine, or the nearby Wookey Hole Caves. The county is also home to Exmoor, whose dramatic countryside RD Blackmore celebrated in his 19th-century novel Lorna Doone. Nature and book lovers alike will love the scenery; many landmarks from the novel can be seen on a walk through the Badgeworthy Water valley, including the Buttery, the Doones’ Farm, where you can now stop for a cream tea or light lunch. Beautiful and historic Bath is of course worth a stay. Retire to your holiday house in Somerset after a long day visiting the ancient but impeccably preserved Roman Baths or after a languorous day luxuriating at the Thermae Spa, whose waters flow from the same ancient spring that the Romans once bathed in. You may find that your holiday house in Somerset is so quaint and picture-perfect, that you never want to leave.
