Anyone in search of quirky accommodation or unusual places to stay should book a stay in this charming and romantic roundhouse in the pretty Essex village of Finchingfield. Surrounded by fields, and a short walk to a choice of pubs, this is a unique and characterful getaway for two.
The roundhouse dates back to the 16th century and is a grade II listed building, originally built by the squire of nearby Spains Hall as a model cottage. Despite its name, it is in fact a hexagonal shape. As quirky accommodation goes, this certainly ticks the boxes!
The idyllic village of Finchingfield in north Essex is picture postcard pretty, and is one of the most photographed villages in England. Quintessentially English, it has a village pond, an 18th century windmill and redbrick cottages. There are three pubs, a post office and a village store within walking distance of the roundhouse. The next village (5 mins drive) is home to a Co-op supermarket and it’s just a short drive to more pubs and tea rooms. The area is full of fantastic walking and cycling trails. The shopping centre of Braintree Freeport is a 25 minute drive, and Westfield London a 55 minute drive.
