Set amongst the trees on the water`s edge in the lush green county of Somerset are four luxury shepherd`s huts, each beautifully secluded from one another. Inside, a stylish and spacious hideaway, and outside, ducks paddling on the lake, buzzards circling overhead, and deer grazing in the fields. There is a lakeside hot tub from where you can admire the views, and a beautifully peaceful woodland sauna. Can you imagine anything more idyllic?
Rural, remote and romantic, these shepherd`s huts provide the perfect escape from the stresses of day to day life. This is a place where you can completely unwind and connect with the stunning landscape. The huts themselves are beautifully furnished - certainly not what shepherds traditionally would have been used to! Surprisingly spacious and equipped with everything from hot showers and flushing toilets to fridges and DVD players, you will want for nothing, and yet right outside your door there is a rippling pond full of bird life, a stunning view over unspoilt countryside and a clear sky just made for cuddling up under and star gazing. It`s hard to imagine a more dreamy setting.
In the next village of Hinton St George (about a mile away and easily accessible by bike or on foot), you will find the award-winning Lord Poulett Arms. With flagstone floors, low beams and open fires, it ticks every box for a traditional country pub. Two miles east is Crewkerne, a market town offering supermarkets, shops, cafes and an indoor pool and gym complex. The pretty town of Lyme Regis, with its boutiques and second hand book shops, is a 30 minute drive, and West Bay & Bridport, famous for being the gateway to the Jurassic Coast, is the same distance. The beach at West Bay is stunning and Bridport itself has everything from cafes and vintage shops to an independent cinema. The coastline and countryside is waiting to be explored - walk a stretch of the coast path, go wind surfing, fishing and rock climbing in Weymouth, or visit one of the many historic houses and gardens like Montacute House, Forde Abbey, and Abbotsbury Swannery.
Getting There:
The Shepherd’s Huts are located just off the A30 and A303. There are direct trains from London Waterloo, Salisbury and Exeter to Crewkerne station, which is only a 5 minute taxi ride away. Interior Details
Each hut is a spacious 20ft by 8ft and everything has been finished to the highest standard, with solid oak floors, beautiful vintage styling and a shabby-chic feel. Shepherds Keep is a fusion of old English and Scandinavian design resulting in a very calming and stunningly finished Shepherds hut. The double doors and window at the end of the bed look straight up the lake with just enough shade from the trees. The fully-fitted country style kitchen has all the mod cons, there is a separate hotel-style bathroom, and you will also find a comfy double bed, a dining area and a TV/DVD player. The huts are insulated, double glazed and fitted with electric heating, so you will always be cosy, and there is plenty of storage space. These are not shepherd`s huts as you know them!
Exterior Details
Each hut sits on its own private decking with a table and chairs for breakfast, and a deck chair for reading and relaxing. There is a woodland sauna just a short distance from the hut and a lakeside hot tub where you can wallow whilst enjoying the views. Toast marshmallows on the fire pit, have a glass of wine as you stoke the BBQ or snooze in the hammock under the trees as you listen to the gentle sounds of leaves rustling and ducks quacking.
