General Info

Rural, remote and romantic, this collection of luxurious shepherd huts are a perfect escape from the busy-ness of day to day life. Spacious, stylish and well equipped, they have cosy interiors, are in a glorious lakeside setting, walking trails on your doorstep and are just half an hour from the beaches of the Jurassic coast.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

In the next village of Hinton St George (about a mile away and easily accessible by bike or on foot), you will find the award-winning Lord Poulett Arms. With flagstone floors, low beams and open fires, it ticks every box for a traditional country pub. Two miles east is Crewkerne, a market town offering supermarkets, shops, cafes and an indoor pool and gym complex. The pretty town of Lyme Regis, with its boutiques and second hand book shops, is a 30 minute drive, and West Bay & Bridport, famous for being the gateway to the Jurassic Coast, is the same distance. The beach at West Bay is stunning and Bridport itself has everything from cafes and vintage shops to an independent cinema. The coastline and countryside is waiting to be explored - walk a stretch of the coast path, go windsurfing, fishing and rock climbing in Weymouth, or visit one of the many historic houses and gardens like Montacute House, Forde Abbey, and Abbotsbury Swannery.
There are loads of places to eat and drink in the area - try the Lord Poulett Arms in Hinton St George, the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster, the Hive Beach Café in Burton Bradstock, the Hix oyster and fish house in Lyme Regis, The Wild Garlic in Beaminster, the Phoenix Bakery in Weymouth, or the Olive Tree Restaurant in Bridport.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
This shepherd’s hut is style personified.  250 square feet of stately home, opulent styling.  Huge glass doors open out onto the deck with its lake and woodland views.  The fully-fitted kitchen has all the mod cons, including a few bits to get you started.  There is a separate hotel-style bathroom with a glass panel in the oversized shower with views across the lake.  There is a super comfy large bed, with Egyptian cotton bedding and towels.   There is an antique gin bar, a dining area and a TV/DVD player. Insulated, double glazed and fitting with electric heating, the hut is cosy all year round.  It has been built with the environment in mind, with water from the farm’s own well, electricity from the farm’s solar panels, and locally sourced timber used in the construction.

Exterior Details
The hut has a beautifully designed waterside garden.  There’s a wood-fired hot tub, a pizza shed, and a bamboo den fire pit area with an outdoor sofa.  There is a woodland sauna just a short distance from the hut.   The on site honesty shop can provide you with extra firewood.

Conditions of Rental
The Shepherd`s Hut Retreat is open all year round. Weeks, weekends and mid-week breaks are available throughout the season. Check in is from 3pm and departure is by 10am. No male groups.
