One-Off Feature

The very essence of quirky places to stay, this three bedroom lighthouse cottage is situated in the heart of the South Walney Island Nature Reserve at the southern tip of Cumbria.  Windswept and rugged, with incredible sea views and wonderful wildlife and birdwatching opportunities.  For groups larger than six, there is another cottage on site which sleeps an additional two people.

General Info

If you are in search of lighthouse holidays then you've come to the right place.  The nature reserve is run by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).  It is home to a wide variety of bird species including eider ducks, willow warblers, sandwich terns, gulls, oystercatchers, ringed plovers, among many others.  Grey seals can often be seen swimming in the sea at high tide.  One of our unusual places to stay - a holiday here will immerse you in nature and wildlife, and the sunrises and sunsets are not to be missed.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The chances are that you won’t want to stray far from the nature reserve as there’s so much to see and wonderful walking trails.  It is a wild, exposed coastal reserve with thousands of breeding seabirds, wintering birds, grey seals and coastal Flora.  The nearest town is Barrow in Furness, a 25 minute drive away.  Barrow is a Victorian town, perfectly situated with the sea on one side, and the Lake District on the other.  There are some great walking and cycling routes in the vicinity, as well as a good range of shops and restaurants, as well as a range of other places to visit including Furness Abbey, Piel Castle, and a golf club.
