Located at the foot of Tennyson Down, this unique apartment sits in the moat of one of the island’s most photographed and painted landmarks: Fort Redoubt. This Palmerston fort was constructed back in 1856 in response to the threat of possible invasion by Napoleon. The caponiers were originally built as barrack accommodation for 24 soldiers, but today they are welcoming holiday homes. Now sleeping six people over three bedrooms and welcoming two four-legged friends, this quirky apartment is the perfect accommodation option for a family or small group of friends who appreciate a sense of history and incredible ocean views.



You can’t help but appreciate the history of Fort Redoubt as you cross the bridge over the moat to arrive at the complex of properties where you’ll find your holiday home. Access to the caponiers is via a staircase through an iron gate from the fort’s central parade square. Step inside and you’ll find yourself in a spacious open-plan living room/kitchen/diner. Cook up a feast for your loved ones in the well-equipped kitchen and serve up dinner in the dining area. There’s plenty of room for everyone around the table. After dinner, relax in front of the TV and warming gas stove or plan the next day with your loved ones. At the end of the day there are three lovely bedrooms to choose from. There is allocated parking for two cars in the forts central parade square. A table and chairs are provided to sit out and enjoy the shared grounds in the moat which is easily accessed from this apartment and a BBQ is also provided.



You’ll find a good selection of water sports at Freshwater Bay (0.5 miles), which is said to be one of the best beaches on the island. Further afield, spend a day at The Needles (3 miles), where a row of three stacks of chalk rise up out of the sea. Take in the views from a chairlift ride, learn about glass blowing at Alum Bay Glass, or try your luck at Jurassic Adventure Golf.
