One-Off Feature

If you’re in search of unique holidays, then this is going to tick all the boxes.  A riverside hideaway, half handbuilt cabin, half vintage caravan.  A waterside deck, peaceful surroundings, and the delights of the Scottish Borders on your doorstep, this is a unique and romantic retreat.

General Info

Fishing Hut is one of a collection of self catering cottages and cabins on a private estate in the Scottish Borders, each secluded from one another.  The hut is right on the banks of the Boondreigh river, and shares a field with some rare breed sheep, across the bridge from the other properties.  A quirky hideaway, it’s a wonderful opportunity to go off grid and embrace your natural surroundings.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

Fishing Hut’s location in the north of the Scottish Borders, near the border with the Lothians, makes it an excellent base for exploring both the Borders, and the Lothians and Edinburgh, which is an easy day trip way.  Northumberland, just across the English border, is also within easy reach.  There’s masses to see and do in the vicinity.  Castles and gardens, beautiful landscapes, wildlife, grand country houses, festivals and the arts, plus wonderful walking, cycling and golf courses galore.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The cabin can sleep up to three people in one bedroom and with the additional use of a daybed.  The wooden part of the cabin is home to the Esse Bakeheart stove-cooker (unlimited logs provided), a sofa, a daybed and a little reading corner.  The cooker has a hot plate on top, and oven at the bottom, and the fire itself for flame grilling, as well as for keeping you warm.  The kitchen is well equipped with a cold water tap, basic crockery and utensils, and a cool box (but no fridge).  In the vintage caravan part of the cabin is the cosy double bed (please note, it’s a small double 6ft x 4ft) with river views.  There’s under bed storage and a chest of drawers.  The living room sofa doubles up as an extra single bed (please ask for bedding if required).  There is a dining table which seats up to three people.  There is a high tech eco toilet just outside the cabin for your private use.  There is no shower at the hut, but the Wash House is a four minute walk away with shower, flushing toilet and washing facilities.  Lighting and USB charge points are powered by solar, so please use sparingly.  There is no wifi, but 3G / 4G available for most networks.

Exterior Details
Nestled alongside the Boondreigh River, the cabin provides the perfect retreat for spending lazy days among nature.  There’s a raised deck on the river side of the cabin where you can enjoy watching the birdlife, and if you’re lucky, you may even spot an otter.  Enjoy the evening sun from the deck on the other side of the cabin, where there’s also a firepit, and you can look out over the fields and watch the sheep grazing.

Conditions
Check in from 4pm / check out by 9.30am.  Linen and towels provided. Please note that the Fishing Hut is a few minutes walk from the parking area. Important: Fishing Hut is immediately next to the river which can be fast-flowing after heavy rains. As such, it may not be suitable for young children.  Please note that the cabin can accept a dog but only if you’re willing to have it on a lead all the time outside, as the cabin is in a sheep field.
