Nestled in a corner of the magical Balblair Woods in the Scottish Highlands, this rustic yet luxurious cabin is the perfect setting for immersing yourself in nature and revelling in panoramic loch and mountain views.
Positioned on the shores of Loch Fleet with magnificent views over the water, The Birdwatchers’ Cabin is the ideal spot for enjoying the company of feathered friends and local wildlife but it also offers so much more than that. The wooden interiors have been beautifully put together, with a large bed that looks out to the loch, a deep cosy sofa, a well-equipped kitchen and a wood burner for the cold nights. The immediate surroundings showcase the Highlands at their best, full of hills, forests and lakes just waiting to be explored. And the region as a whole plays host to all sorts of attractions, from golf courses to distilleries. It’s the ultimate escape.
The cabin is located within Balblair Woods and the Loch Fleet Nature Reserve so there are numerous walking trails just made for spotting wild flowers, ospreys, geese, wild fowl, seals and otters (there is a dedicated bird hide just along from the cabin). Dunrobin Castle, famous for its falconry display, is a fantastic day out, and Cairn Liath Broch is a great place for a wander and a picnic. Or you could tackle the Big Burn Walk in Golspie (only 1.5 miles), climb or bike Ben Braggie, visit one of the nearby distilleries or golf courses, and eat out at the numerous local cafes and restaurants. Day trips to places like John O’Groats and Inverness are very easy by car.
Getting There:
To get to the cabin you need to turn right of the A9 at Kirkton farm a few miles south of Golspie. Come down the road over the railway crossing and all the way to the trees. Come through the open gate and turn right at the bottom, you will pass a bird hide on your left keep coming and take the left at the fork in the track. The cabin parking is on the left next to two Scots pine trees just before you get to our house. There is a short path that leads to the cabin from there.
