Something special in the Caribbean - a houseboat on the island of Andros, Bahamas
Starting at less then 60 miles from the Florida coast, the chain of islands and rocky outcrops which make up the Bahamas are some of the most picturesque beach holiday destinations in the world. Famous for its fantastic diving and snorkelling, but also offering a wide variety of other beach related activites, it is a popular tourist destination.
The island of Andros is the largest of the Bahaman islands, yes still only measures 104 x 40 miles, and is in fact one of the least explored of the islands. Andros is a premier dive site - the east coast of the island is home to the third largest barrier reef in the world where you can see extraordinary marine life, spectacular coral gardens and underwater caverns. Andros is also exceptional for gamefishing. Andros even has its very own 'Loch Ness Monster', a dragon-like sea monster which is called the Lusca. And if you're lucky you might find a chickcharnie or two, a mischievous mythical creature which is said to inhabit Andros Island.
To experience all these wonderful things, you will of course need somewhere to stay. Of course there are many hotels and villas to choose from, to suit all different budgets and group sizes. But if you are a group of six or fewer, then do consider Sunset Point Houseboat, a favourite of the One Off Places team.
This utterly glorious houseboat sleeps up to six people in three bedrooms, and is situated in a stunning and remote part of a saltwater creek which runs deep into the core of Andros island. Use it as a base whilst you explore the island, or show up at the houseboat with a good book and a box of paints, and indulge in the peaceful ever moving scenic view from the boat's deck.
This is the ultimate retreat for anyone who wants world class fishing, star gazing, birding, sunning, beaches and relaxation.
