One-Off Feature

Once an old stone barn where traveller’s horses were stabled, the Artist Studio is a gloriously rustic two bedroom retreat, one of three properties with a shared pool in the village of Bouriege, in the foothills of the French Pyrenees.  The properties also share two gardens.  A wonderful rural retreat

General Info

These three holiday rentals in France in the Aude region of the Languedoc, are all distinct from one another.  Two are unusual renovated old inns and the third is this converted barn, the Artist Studio.  There is a swimming pool and two gardens, which are shared by the three properties.  With twelve bedrooms in total between all three houses, the houses have hosted family reunions, birthday parties and wedding parties.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

Bouriège is a commune in the Aude, in the Languedoc-Roussillon. It has a population of 140.  If you’re after activities and places to visit, then there’s masses to do.  Equally, you might find that you can’t rouse yourself from the hammock in the garden for an entire week!  For those seeking action, then you can do a number of things in the area including rafting, canoeing, caving, horseriding and gliding.  There are also lots of sights to visit; Cathar chateaux, ancient caves, medieval towns, the Grottes de Niaux, Carcassonne and Canal du Midi tour are all worth visiting.

Getting There & Local Amenities

Getting There:
The nearest airports are Toulouse or Carcassonne.  There is a shuttle from Toulouse airport (Blagnac to the Toulouse train station and you can catch a train from there to Carcassonne which is a 45 min drive from our house.  We are 1.5 hours from Toulouse; 45 minutes from Carcassonne; 15 minutes from Limoux.  We are also 4.5 hours from Barcelona.  Directions: once in Limoux take the Boulvard Tivoli heading out of town direction Magrie.  Turn right on the D121, direction Magrie.  You will pass Magrie, Roquetaillade and then come to Bouriege.  In Bouriege, take a right at the bridge which will bring you in front of the village cafe, La Corneilla. Take a right at the cafe down Rue de La Poste.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The Artist Studio can sleep up to four people in two separate bedrooms.  The studio is rustic but simply oozing character.  The walls are all unfinished stone and the floors are wide pine floorboards.  There’s a bathroom on the ground floor.  The main studio space with a large skylight and fully equipped kitchen are one flight of stairs up.  The kitchen includes copper pots, all crockery and cutlery, fridge freezer and dishwasher.  

Exterior Details
The three houses share the solar heated black infinity pool which is in a small walled courtyard at the back of the houses.  The pool has a lockable gate at the top of the stairs which lead down to it.  There are a couple of loungers around the poolside.  The large terrace wraps around the back of all three properties and overlooks the pool - here you can enjoy enjoy eating al fresco or just relaxing on the loungers and chairs.  There is a glorious ‘secret’ garden opposite the artist studio which has tables and chairs, and a small BBQ, for al fresco dinners.  The ‘big’ garden is a little further down the village by a small stream.  Here you can play badminton, table tennis, croquet or boules, laze in the hammock, swing under the cherry tree, or BBQ.  A variety of bikes are available.

Further Details
The three houses are completely independent of each other, but  can interconnect for a large house party.  The complex of houses has hosted weddings, birthdays, and family reunions.  It’s a great place for an extended family to holiday together without being right on top of each other.  There have been jazz bands, belle epoque balls, picnics and most of all lots of fun. The owners are happy to advise on local caterers, wine, and live music. 

Conditions of Rental
30% due on booking with the balance due six weeks before arrival.  A 200 euro security deposit is due in cash on arrival (and will be returned providing everything is in order after your stay). Rates are in euros.  Minimum stay is 4 nights (except August which is a 7 night minimum).  Check in from 4pm, check out by 10am.  All linens are provided. Gas, water, electrics and WiFi are included.
