It’s dog-friendly and 1 mile from the nearest pub where you can enjoy a quiet evening pint. Just 2.5 miles away is the picturesque Llangorse Lake, which is excellent for boating in the summer. And if you’re feeling energetic, you won’t want to miss a chance to hike up to the popular Pen Y Fan summit (it’s 7.5 miles to the start of the route).

Brecon (5 miles) is also well worth the trip; this lovely town, famed for its Georgian architecture, is where the rivers Usk and Honddu meet. You can visit its Royal Welsh Regimental Museum or medieval cathedral and, if the timings are right, view a film at its 1930s cinema.
