After a spot of retail therapy, take a stroll along the pretty towpath of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal or perhaps stride out along the Taff Trail, which starts in the town. Hay-on-Wye (18.5 miles) also makes a delightful day out, with its cute cafes, art galleries, boutiques and, of course, multiple book shops.
