One-Off Feature

Built as a school around 120 years ago, and last used as such in about 1930, The Old Schoolhouse is a cottage with plenty of character, from an open fire to the large original school room. Come and enjoy the natural tranquillity and rugged beauty that Skye is famous for.

General Info

With lovely views over Loch Harport and the Red Cuillins, this is the perfect base from which to explore the wonderful Isle of Skye, one of Scotland’s most unspoilt and picturesque regions. The cottage retains a number of original features which are all part of its authentic charm and history, but it has also been comfortably modernised to provide a cosy, convenient holiday retreat. Curl up with a book in front of a roaring fire, play table tennis and darts with the children, or get out and discover the island’s wonders, from the wild coastline to the craggy mountains. This is a complete escape from the stresses of day to day life.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The cottage is ideally situated for walking, climbing and exploring the rest of Skye and there are hiking and mountaineering possibilities for people of all abilities. Just down the hill is Carbost village with shop, post office, medical centre and the famous Talisker distillery. There is a 9 hole golf course at Sconser, a variety of boat trips on offer and a number of visitor attractions, from Dunvegan Castle and Armadale Castle Gardens to Edinbane Pottery and the Skye Museum of Island Life in Kilmuir. There are eagles and otters, deer and marvellous wild flowers in summer, and galleries, museums and jewellery shops. At the end of a day of fresh air, activity and sightseeing, you can sink into a chair at one of the local hostelries, whether it be the Old Inn at Carbost just a 10 minute walk away, the Kinloch Lodge Hotel or the Three Chimneys restaurant.
