One-Off Feature

Set on the scenic Kilpatrick Hills with stunning views over the River Clyde and Erskine Bridge, this traditional cottage is a unique mix of Victorian-era architecture and contemporary interiors. Come and enjoy a bit of luxury in a beautiful location.

General Info

The Auchentoshan is one of five self-catering cottages at Gavinburn, each of which has its own individual character and style. The cottages were originally built in the 1800s to house estate visitors, but they now provide a unique location from which to explore the vibrant city of Glasgow, the stunning beauty of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and the capital city of Edinburgh, less than an hour’s drive away. Inside the cottage is furnished to a very high standard and provides guests with everything they could want for a relaxing break, from wood burning stoves to fluffy pillows. And on your doorstep is a natural paradise, exhilarating for hill walkers and mountain bikers and just as wonderful for those who just want to enjoy unspoilt scenery and fresh Scottish air.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

This part of the world is a hub of outdoor pursuits, both on dry land and in the water. The Kilpatrick Hills provide excellent hill walking opportunities, from leisurely woodland walks to brisk hill climbs, and you can also go rock climbing, mountain biking, fishing, horse riding and sailing. There are some top quality golf courses within 10 minutes of the cottage, and there are ample opportunities for bird and wildlife spotting. You could even try your hand at paintballing or falconry. There are lots of sites of historic interest to discover, from the Antonine Wall world heritage site to the Titan Crane Visitor Centre in Clydebank, and you should also make time for Dumbarton Castle, the nearby whisky distilleries and the rugged islands off the west coast. And at the end of a long day there are plenty of local eateries, from the friendly Italian restaurant in the village to the top class restaurants of Glasgow.

Getting There & Local Amenities

Getting There:
We are well sign posted when you reach the top of Station Road and pass under the A82 in the village of Old Kilpatrick, which lies below the Erskine Bridge. Then it’s a case of following the Gavinburn signs into the Kilpatrick Hills. We can also arrange to collect you from Glasgow Airport or Kilpatrick train station if you are leaving the car at home. Kilpatrick train station is located at the bottom of the hill (about a mile’s walk) and trains run every half hour into Glasgow and onto Edinburgh. It takes about 20 minutes to get to Glasgow.
