This two bedroom house is set in the pretty village of Villandas in the mountains of Asturias, Spain. Set in beautiful landscape, and far from the busy tourist hotspots, Pison de Fondon is a gloriously peaceful holiday retreat.
There are two cottages on site (each well secluded from one another and with their own private gardens). Both cottages have been restored with nature and the environment in mind, using natural materials and eco friendly interiors.
The central location of the house makes it an ideal starting point for visiting the sights of Asturias, undoubtedly one of Spain’s most attractive bucolic regions. We are 15 km from the protected area of Pico Caldoveiro and Puerto de Marabio (20 minutes), 4 km from the Camino Real de la Mesa, 26 km from the Somiedo Natural Park (35 minutes), 32.4 km from the Senda del Oso (50 minutes), 55 minutes from the Playa del Aguila… all of them uniquely beautiful places. There are native oak, beech, chestnut and ash woods nearby. You do not have to use your car to go for a walk in the countryside.
Getting There:
There are daily flights to Asturias from London, Stansted with Easyjet. There are also flights from Heathrow with IberiaExpress and from Gatwick with Vueling. There will be a pick-up at the airport for the first day of each reading group and a drop-off at the end of each group. If you want to hire a car, I recommend Enterprise. If you want to bring your car there are ferries from Portsmouth and Plymouth with Brittany Ferries. There is a new high-speed train from Madrid to Oviedo with RENFE. Talk to us. We can help you with your travel plans if you want to extend your stay in Spain, whether driving or using public transport.
Interior Details
The original stonework has been conserved on the outside and is also visible in many places on the inside. The ceilings and floor are made of chestnut and much of the furniture is antique or restored. The house is made up of two floors – on the upper floor you will find two double bedrooms and full bathroom facilities. The bedclothes are made up of ecological cotton linen, fluffy feather eiderdowns and pure wool blankets. On the ground floor is the fully equipped kitchen, and here you will also find the living room with a real log fire and a TV/DVD player. At your disposal is a small library with a variety of books about the environment, ecology and the nature and history of the region, as well as a selection of general literature and cookery books. In the kitchen there is an oven, a fridge, a washing machine, a microwave, an electric hob and a good assortment of cooking dishes and utensils. There is also a food mixer and a juicer, so it is always easy to prepare delicious meals from fresh, local ingredients. The house is equipped with an iron and ironing board, clothes dryers, a pellet stove and fire extinguishers. We make a conscious effort to reduce our environmental impact so that our guests can enjoy healthy and pleasant surroundings.
Exterior Details
The living room looks out onto a large enclosed patio of about 100m2 which is the perfect outdoor space for barbeques. Surrounding the house there are ample gardens and a small organic vegetable garden. However young or old, this is the countryside idyll at its very best. Here you can feel the silence, listen to the birdsong, the cowbells… relax in the middle of nature.
