Set in 260 acres of organic farmland and surrounded by footpaths, historic sites and gastro pubs, The Old Workshop in Somerset is a beautiful barn conversion where every luxury and comfort has been taken care of.
Converted using traditional techniques, this cottage has been transformed from an old farm building into a holiday property that really has the ‘wow’ factor. The double height ceiling is framed by lovely wooden beams and the contemporary open-plan living area boasts mezzanine bedrooms that wouldn’t look out of place in a Grand Designs project. Inside you can enjoy all the modern home comforts you could want and outside you can discover the farm’s very own medieval castle site and the many delights of Somerset, Dorset and Devon.
The cottage sits on a privately owned organic dairy farm, surrounded by wooded hills and valleys and just a short drive from the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline and its spectacular beaches and towns. The market town of Crewkerne (2 miles away) offers a good selection of shops, cafes and leisure facilities, and Hinton St George, 1.5 miles away, is a picturesque village with an award-winning gastro pub. Towns like Lyme Regis, Bridport and Burton Bradstock are well worth a visit, as are the historic houses and gardens at Montacute House, Forde Abbey and Abbotsbury Swannery. And if you want to get active then you can walk along the South West Coast Path National Trail, go horse riding and biking, play golf at Windwhistle, or take fishing and boating trips in West Bay.

Interior Details
Unsurprisingly, The Old Workshop was once the farm workshop but the renewed scale, style and grandeur are hard to imagine until you’re there. The interior has been beautifully designed with features like a handmade kitchen and an oak floor, and contemporary extras like DVDs and WiFi have all been considered. When guests comment that they “want to move in” you know you’re onto a good thing!
Exterior Details
The cottage has its own small courtyard complete with patio furniture, and around the farm there are 260 acres of shared, natural, unspoilt woodland to explore. There is parking for two cars and a secure cycle store. There is a woodland sauna a short walk from the cottage. There is a glorious hillside hot tub (available from 1st November 2019) available to guests of all the cottages, where you can book a private timeslot and settle back with a glass of something cold to enjoy the views.
Further Details
There are three other cottages on the farm as well as some glamping options.
