Costa da Prata - Silver Coast
Whether you want to relax on the sands and ride the waves or hike through the countryside and explore historic sites, the Costa da Prata is a magical stretch of Portuguese coastline. The beaches are breathtaking - from the lagoon at Foz do Arelho to the popular surfing spots of Medao, Nazare and Praia Tocha - and all year round there are opportunities for stand-up paddle boarding, kite surfing and sailing. Just off the coast you will also find the nature reserve of Berlenga Island, home to all manner of birds and wildlife.
On land there is just as much to enjoy - visit the ancient University of Coimbra, stroll through the cobbled streets of picturesque Obidos, tour a local winery and taste some of its produce, discover the colourful markets of Caldas, stroll around the Buddha Eden sculpture gardens and visit the UNESCO world heritage site at Alcobaca. Or spend a day in Peniche where you will find Salazar’s seaside fort and a vibrant fishing harbour just made for relaxing and people watching. If you’re planning a holiday in Portugal then the Silver Coast is a no-brainer.
