The Chestnuts is an outstanding, traditional, yet chic Cotswold cottage, the main part of which dates back to the 1850s. It has many original features including flagstone floors, a stone stairway, beamed ceilings and a large inglenook fireplace. The Cottage is full of luxuries from eco-friendly toiletries, to crisp linen sheets, sumptuous duvets and an espresso coffee machine. Secluded and peaceful, it is the perfect place for a getaway. Minimising our impact on the environment is important to us and The Chestnuts is that rare place where environmental sustainability and luxury meet. We are proud to hold a Gold award with the Green Tourism Business Scheme and with the help of Co2balance our entire business is Carbon Neutral. The house has won numerous awards, most recently including a Visit England Rose Award (2019) which is only awarded to 100 properties each year. It is also a finalist in The beautiful South Tourism awards for Self-catering accommodation of the year award 2024/25.
The Chestnuts is Located in the heart of one of England’s areas of outstanding natural beauty. It sits in the village of Shilton, 3 miles from Burford and in a central location to explore the Cotswolds. Just a few miles to the east stands the dreaming spires of Oxford, home to one of the world’s most renowned seats of learning and cultural centres. Within an hour’s drive of The Chestnuts you will discover a host of landmark towns and attractions including the medieval ramparts of Warwick and Stratford upon Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Alternatively heading west down the Roman Fosse way you can explore the golden stone villages of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, including the market towns of Cirencester, Moreton in the Marsh and Stow on the Wold, and the larger centres of Cheltenham and Bath. It is also only a short drive from Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat farm shop and pub The Farmer's Dog.
Getting There:
It is served by a comprehensive network of national and international road, rail and air links. There are local transport services for getting about but this is a rural area, so you would be best to hire a car. By road – The Oxfordshire Cotswold's is served by excellent links to the A34 and M40, providing easy access to London, Birmingham and the remainder of the national motorway network. By bus – there are excellent services to and from Oxford and London. By rail - The Cotswold line operates from\London Paddington to Hereford and Worcester with seven stations in the area. The London Paddington to Birmingham line also stops at Tackley station, in the east of the area. By air - Both London Heathrow and Birmingham international airports are within an hours drive and can be reached by car, bus and rail.

Interior Details
The original building has recently been sympathetically extended and today the property comprises three lounges, four bedrooms (doubles), two luxury bathrooms and a separate shower room. All the rooms are interior designed with original art works and artefacts. The fully fitted kitchen has a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and freezer. It is equipped for the gourmet chef, with all the utensils, cookery books and cooking equipment you should need, as well as the finest wine glasses, white bone china place settings and a Gaggia coffee espresso/cappuccino machine.There is a small library of handpicked books, information guides and maps as well as games for all ages. There is free wireless internet in the property.

There is a secluded and peaceful garden, fully equipped with garden furniture, so that there are many places to sit and enjoy your surroundings. Set in the very heart of Shilton, the secluded garden of The Chestnuts has some of the best views in the village.
Conditions of Rental
All prices quoted are inclusive of linen, towels and fuel. Logs and kindling are supplied sufficient to allow you to use the open fire occasionally, to create that indulgent, cosy atmosphere. Additional logs are easily purchased locally.
