One-Off Feature

Gardeners Cottage is one of a collection of cottages on the site of an old olive press in a village setting on the island of Corfu in Greece, 200n from one of the oldest and most famous restaurants on the island, a short drive to the coast, and with large grounds and a shared pool on site.  A perfect venue for family gatherings, group get togethers and creative projects.  Long lets available in winter from October to April at low rents.

General Info

Casa Lucia is an old olive press which has been beautifully renovated and converted into eight self catering cottages.  It is a place where people can come to rest and retreat in this beautiful countryside.  Enjoy exploring the grounds and on site labyrinth, find quiet corners in which to read and stargaze, or head off and explore the island.  A wide range of activities and workshops take place throughout the year at Casa Lucia which includes yoga, tai chi, qigong, meditation, breathwork, music and theatrical performances.  Qualified practitioners can come to give massages, beauty treatments and alternative therapies.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

Sgombou is a small village in the centre of Corfu making it an ideal setting off point to explore the whole island.  Lucciola restaurant, one of the oldest and best known restaurants in Corfu,  is 5 minutes walk away and opens early every evening, offering traditional home-cooked  Greek food.  500 m away is Maria’s grillroom which offers daily specials as well as kebabs and grilled meats.  There are several  places locally which do food delivery.  Sgombou boasts the best ceramic workshop on the island, and next door to Casa Lucia is a glass and wrought-iron workshop making small and large objects from recycled material.  From Casa Lucia you can visit ceramic workshops, organic farms, olive presses, beekeeping demonstrations, lakes and salt flats, join guided botanical walks or try your hand at some cooking lessons.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
Some of the olive press buildings date back to Venetian times, and they have thick stone walls, beamed ceilings, clay tile roofs and vaulted stone arches.  Gardener’s Cottage can sleep up to four people in one double bedded room and a living room with two sofa beds.  It has a dining area, kitchen, and separate bathroom and covers a space of 43m2.

There are seven other accommodation options on site, five other cottages which can each sleep at least four, plus a pair of studio apartments.  The studios are 21m2 and can sleep 1-2 people each.  Each of the cottages has a double bed as well as additional divan beds / sofa beds for small families or groups of friends.    For big groups, the cottages can sleep up to 25 people in total in eight separate self contained spaces ranging from 21m2 - 52m2.  When required for groups there is a 30m2 kitchen with dining areas inside and out, and a BBQ.   The two other communal spaces are perfect for events - there’s a 10m x 6m event room ‘Estia’ which has capacity for up to 18 people for bodywork and 30+ for other activities.  There’s an additional even room ‘Folia’ which is 32m2.

Exterior Details
Each cottage has its own outdoor area with chairs, table and umbrella.  Then there are large shared gardens with olive, cypress and quince trees, and green lawns surrounded by bougainvillea, roses, geraniums and fruit trees.  Jasmine and vines provide fragrant shade and screening around the oval shaped swimming pool.  There is a trampoline, table tennis table and other outdoor play equipment.  Also in the grounds is a stone labyrinth, based on the original layout of the original Greek labyrinth of Knossos, which is a wonderful place for walking, running,  and thinking.

Conditions of Rental
Check in from 2pm.  Check out by 11am.  Bed linen and towels provided.  Cots and high chairs available on request.  All the cottages are cleaned daily except for Sundays and public holidays.  Guests receive a welcome pack of basic provisions.  Wifi is available in most areas.  5 of the cottages have a cable connection.  Child care is available on request.  The owners place considerable importance on their environmental impact and this is apparent through use of eco cleaning products, recycling of rubbish, solar panels and a private water supply.
