There is no better place from which to explore the scenery and attractions of the gorgeous Charente Maritime region.
The surrounding countryside offers lots of signposted walks and mountain bike trails (surely the best ways to take in the scenery), and the cottage is not far from the town of Surgeres, with its tri-weekly covered market and walled chateau, and St Jean d’Angely, with its bustling old streets and stunning bell tower. The historic city of La Rochelle, complete with an old port area, plenty of excellent seafood restaurants and a renowned aquarium, is within easy striking distance, and other local attractions include the tranquil canals of the Marais Poitevin and the excellent local zoo in the forest at Chize. If you want to go to the seaside there are safe beaches at Chatelaillon Plage and further afield at Royan, or you could head for the exclusive Ile de Re off the coast of La Rochelle.
Getting There:
The nearest airport is La Rochelle (50 minutes) which is well served by inexpensive flights, or you could get the TGV from Paris to Niort. By car/ferry you should travel to Caen or St Malo and then join the motorway to Niort via Rennes and Nantes.

Interior Details
The cottage has two bedrooms, one in the eaves of the building with an en-suite shower room and views over the countryside and one on the ground floor overlooking the pretty formal garden. On the ground floor you will also find a modern family bathroom with walk in shower and bath, a light spacious living area with windows on all sides, a fully equipped kitchen, an original fireplace and a dining table and chairs.
Exterior Details
The Logis has its own south-facing seating area and a private garden with terrace. The chateau sits in 7 acres of grounds which boast attractive gardens, woodland walks and a full sized croquet lawn.
Conditions of Rental
A 20% booking fee is required with the balance due 6 weeks prior to arrival.
