One-Off Feature

Set within a private waterfront estate in the Lake District National Park, Waternook comprises two luxurious residences with an array of carefully curated concierge services on offer.  The ultimate, super luxury, self catering accommodation, perfect for a weekend or holiday with friends and family.

General Info

Whether you book Waternook or The Great Barn or the whole estate, you’re sure to be wowed by this stunning lakeside retreat. Each 17th century country house is sumptuously furnished, with characterful bedrooms, elegant lounges and terraces overlooking the water. The services and experiences on offer are fantastic - so you can choose to self-cater or to be completely and utterly pampered (why not let someone else look after you for a change?). And the surrounding area is both beautiful and full of entertainment, whether you’re into mountain walking, wild swimming or photography. This is the ultimate setting for a weekend away with friends or a special celebration.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

Often regarded as the most beautiful of the English lakes, Ullswater is both large and beautiful, with a mountain backdrop and a rich ecosystem that supports a number of Britain’s rarest bird and wildlife species. Those in search of outdoor pursuits will find mountain walks aplenty, as well as opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming and kayaking. Cycling and horse riding are also popular, or you could let the owners arrange some bespoke cooking, baking or wine tasting classes on the estate.

We recently stayed at Waternook for a long weekend to celebrate our wedding. We held a humanist wedding ceremony on the beautiful terrace in front of the house - you couldn’t find a more beautiful outdoor setting for a romantic wedding. Our party of 12 who stayed at the house had a wonderful time and were blown away by the facilities, taking full advantage of the cinema room (it was the World Cup final and Wimbledon final during our weekend!) as well as the lovely spa and hot tub. Our whole 3 night stay was absolutely fantastic, a wonderful celebration and relaxing fun time. There are many options for spending free time - walking, fishing, taking the steamer or simply enjoying the house facilities. Dominic was fantastic in organising our stay and he was very responsive and accommodating. I would love to return for another stay and cannot recommend this venue highly enough, it is true luxury in the most magnificent setting.

Imagine waking every morning in a Japanese water colour, such is the calm beauty of views from Waternook. It is in an insanely beautiful location that is secluded yet nestled in the foothills of Helvellyn. The house has clearly been developed to a very high standard and is big enough to swallow large parties without them being on top of each other. We appreciated the house being clean - not just self-catering clean, it was 5 star hotel clean. Ullswater is so much the better for having no powered boats and the lack of jet-skis was so welcome. Howtown is a stop on the Ullswater Steamers boat service so you can walk to Glenridding for example on the fabulous lake shore path and get the boat back. If you want the most comfortable and luxurious self-catering in the Lakes then book Waternook, it is hard to imagine anyone being disappointed.
