This open-fronted stone barn in rural Herefordshire was originally a blacksmith’s workshop and has now been converted, with great architectural flair, into a romantic bolthole where you can relax in contemporary space, style and comfort.
If you’re looking for the perfect cottage from which to explore the verdant Herefordshire countryside then look no further. The Forge sits within the grounds of the Whittern Estate and has been beautifully restored - retaining its original A-frame while now also boasting home comforts like oak floorboards and a Swedish wood burner. Whether you’re tucked up inside after a soak in the roll top bath or sitting out on the terrace with a glass of wine, The Forge is a delightful country retreat.
Beyond the private garden there are endless acres of fields, orchards and woodland for you to explore and there are four excellent walking trails that go round the farm, through the woods, over open countryside and connect with other foot paths (you can even walk to the pub). Within about a half hour drive you can play golf, try shooting, go canoeing and go-karting, cycle and horse ride, and nearby you will find Hay-on-Wye with its numerous book shops, the border towns of Kington and Presteigne and Ludlow with its renowned food markets and restaurants. In the area you will find gardens, houses, castles and farms, as well as an excellent selection of pubs and restaurants.
