Imaginatively restored and converted into a delightfully charming and characterful cottage, this original coach house in Cambridgeshire sits in a tranquil and secluded position at the bottom of a large walled garden. Come and enjoy a little slice of rural 1950s living.
Throughout the cottage, great attention has been paid to incorporating original features, so stable paviors, latch doors, exposed beams and wood floors are much in evidence. The decor and furnishings have been carefully chosen to reflect the building’s original purpose - the Tack Room still has the saddle hooks draped with bridles and the original stove used to heat the horses’ bran. This is a unique and cosy bolthole from which to explore the lovely Cambridgeshire town of Ely.
Although the house is only a stone’s throw from the medieval cathedral, the tourist information centre and Ely’s restaurants and shops, the setting is remarkably peaceful. Ely is an ideal base for touring East Anglia and there is something for everyone. Places of interest include Cambridge, Bury St. Edmunds, Newmarket, Thetford Forest, Wicken Fen, Welney 'Wetlands Trust', and Duxford Air Museum. There are also several National Trust properties such as Anglesey Abbey, Oxburgh Hall and more besides.
Getting There:
Ely's main railway station is 5 minutes by car and between 10 and 15 minutes on foot. The train from London King’s Cross to Ely takes just 66 minutes. There is a taxi rank outside the station. There is a bus stop opposite the front of our property and another on our side of the road 75m away by Cromwell House (tourist information centre). See the website for more detailed driving and walking directions.
