Bilshay Farmhouse sleeps up to ten people and is the ideal location for large families or groups. It lies close to Symondsbury Estate where there are plenty of fun activities on offer and lots of walks to be had amongst the gorgeous landscape of the Dorset countryside. There’s plenty to see from the property itself though as the large garden at Bilshay Farmhouse has some absolutely incredible views that you really have to see for yourself. Guests can relax in the garden and appreciate the view while the more energetic guests enjoy the open space of the large garden and make use of the trampoline, hot tub, and games room with table tennis and table football.
If further activity is required then the location of the house is perfectly situated. Its proximity to the Jurassic coast and world heritage site means that it only takes a few miles of walking along the spectacular coastal paths and countryside to visit these places and enjoy them for the day. The peace and tranquillity of the area will please all visitors and there’s also plenty of fun to be had on the historic Symondsbury Estate. The place is dog friendly and there’s stabling and turnout for horses available with prior appointment.
Set amongst pasture and ancient woodland in rural Dorset, Symondsbury Estate is within walking distance of beautiful, untouched beaches along a vast stretch of coastline. Owned by the Colfox family for over a hundred years and with buildings dating back to 1440, Symondsbury Estate is near to the Jurassic coast and to so many amazing beaches that you will be spoilt for choice. A short walk takes visitors to the top of Colmer hill to enjoy the stunning panoramic view of the sea and rolling hills of the Dorset countryside. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a buzzard overhead. There are plenty of other routes and historic paths over the estate and bicycles can be hired for this purpose.
Animal lovers will get a chance to meet the animals in an animal viewing area where Black pigs, Pygmy goats and the ever-friendly Minty the sheep are a delight to all children as well as their parents. Symondsbury Estate’s garden provides fresh, organic produce for the Symondsbury Kitchen all the year round and some of these delicious items such as jams, marmalades, cheeses, beers, and gins can be purchased by guests. Horse and Carriage rides are on offer for a leisurely tour of the area and for the more adventurous there are even survival courses on offer which teach key survival skills delivered by experienced and knowledgeable trainers. One-day taster courses for the bold and four-day courses for the even bolder!
The village of Bridport is only a few minutes’ drive away and visitors will find several restaurants as well as a vintage market and a museum. There’s a Waitrose in Bridport for any last-minute home comforts, but you’re likely to have everything you could want for your holiday on Symondsbury Estate itself.

Interior Details
The owners of Bilshay Farmhouse have done a fantastic job of maintaining the traditional style of the place with all the necessary renovations to make the property bright and discreetly modern. Old wooden beams overlook the spacious open-plan interior of a contemporary, fully equipped kitchen and a dining table which seats up to ten people. Two triple bedrooms and two doubles all contain zip and link beds which can be rearranged for extra guests. Two of the bedrooms are en-suite in addition to a main bathroom with a bath and shower and a downstairs WC. Two big sofas and an armchair in the sitting room give guests a cosy place to sit in front of the log burner fire and watch the large widescreen TV in comfort or make use of the house’s available Wi-Fi. The property also has a utility room with a washer and dryer and other amenities. This truly is an excellent choice for any large family or group and has all the comfort and convenience of home and in a great location too.
Exterior Details
The house has a large private garden which is great for relaxing in the outside chairs and viewing the surrounding countryside. Children won’t get bored as the trampoline and games room with table tennis and table football can keep them entertained and in good weather, guests won’t want to miss the chance to use the hot tub. A gas lit barbecue is available to cater for large numbers of people and there is easy and plentiful parking at the property.
Conditions of Rental
The deposit is 25% of the total rent. Bed linen, towels and dressing gowns for adults are provided and beds will be made up for you when you arrive. Please bring your own linen for the cot. The towels must not be taken to the beach or used in the hot tub, so please bring your own for this purpose. Heating, electricity and wi-fi are also included in the price. Essential items for the kitchen including tea, coffee, sugar, tea towels, cleaning products, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, and luxury hand soap are also provided. We provide a welcome hamper which consists of essentials including; milk, bread, butter, eggs and cereal.
