Originally built in 1106 by order of Henry I, and later rebuilt and enlarged in the 13th and 14th centuries, Tiverton Castle evokes an incredibly atmospheric sense of history. The castle is home to three self catering properties to suit varying group sizes. For anyone in search of castle holidays, you’ve come to the right place!
Tiverton Castle simply oozes history and atmosphere and offers very comfortable accommodation and unusual places to stay. Once home of the powerful medieval Earls of Devon and a Plantagenet Princess, the Castle has been added to and altered over the last several hundred years to become a wonderful amalgamation of all periods of architecture from medieval to modern. The Castle has now been turned, in part, into a collection of self-contained holiday properties. The Castle is open to the public two afternoons a week from Easter till the end of October. The owners live on site and are available to deal with any issues.
There’s lots to explore on site - you can enjoy a free tour of the castle and learn about its history, or wander through the walled gardens down to the River Exe and enjoy the produce from the kitchen garden. There are many local attractions and facilities in the vicinity, as well as some lovely village pubs and restaurants, and miles of unspoilt countryside to explore. Tiverton is a market town with interesting history and architecture, and the north and south coast beaches are just a short drive away, as are Exmoor, Dartmoor and Exeter.
