A perfect destination for family and friends alike at a gorgeous, thatched country cottage in rural Dorset. This fabulous place for a holiday or short break is only two miles from the sea with plenty of fun activities and nature walks in the area and a hot tub and a large garden at home.
Eagles Nest is a Grade II listed building which mixes the country idyll with all the comforts of home. Totally secluded from all the rush and noise, Eagles Nest is still close enough to the nearby villages and Symondsbury Estate itself for guests to easily take part in everything the area has to offer. The property is close to Dorset’s Jurassic Coastline with its amazing beaches as well as the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding countryside. It only takes a few miles of walking along the spectacular coastal and country paths to visit these places so making spontaneous trips will be no difficulty. There are plenty of activities on the historic Symondsbury Estate itself and it has something to appeal to all ages and all interests. There are so many fantastic walks in this coastal location and the Dorset countryside has some of the best natural scenery a holiday can offer.
Eagles Nest lies near to Symondsbury Estate who own and manage the property. Set amongst pasture and ancient woodland in rural Dorset, Symondsbury Estate is within walking distance of beautiful, untouched beaches. Symondsbury Estate has been owned by the Colfox family for over a hundred years and has buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. It’s near to Dorset’s Jurassic coastline and to so many amazing beaches that you will be spoilt for choice. Visitors are encouraged to walk to the top of Colmer hill to see the absolutely stunning panoramic view of the sea and rolling hills of the Dorset countryside. There are sometimes buzzards to be spotted overhead and it’s a fantastic place to look out over the world as so many have done before. There are many other routes and historic paths over the estate and bicycles can be hired for this purpose.
An animal viewing is open to visitors and they will be charmed by the animals who they see there: Black pigs, Pygmy goats and the ever-friendly Minty the sheep are a delight to children as well as their parents. Symondsbury Estate’s garden provides fresh, organic produce for the Symondsbury Kitchen all year round and some of these delicious jams, marmalades, cheeses, beers, and gins can be purchased by guests. Horse & Carriage rides are available for a leisurely tour of the area and for the more adventurous there are survival courses on offer which teach key survival skills delivered by experienced and knowledgeable trainers. One-day taster courses are on offer for the bold and four-day courses for the even bolder!
Guests can make a very short trip to the village of Bridport which is only a few miles away and find several restaurants as well as a vintage market and a museum. There’s a Waitrose in Bridport for any last-minute home comforts, but it’s safe to say that you’re likely to have everything you could possibly want for your holiday on Symondsbury Estate itself.

Interior Details
Inside of Eagles Nest the aged wooden beams which stretch over this otherwise modern and up-to-date property. The owners have been careful to renovate the place thoroughly but delicately so that guests can enjoy the best of both worlds. The style is bright during the day but will quickly become cosy at night as guests recline on the comfortable and spacious sofas in the sitting room in front of a log burner fire. The property can sleep six people comfortably and has three double bedrooms with zip and link beds which can be made into two singles or one super king size bed as required. The main bathroom has a bath with an overhead power shower and two of the bedrooms are en-suite. There is a downstairs WC as well and a utility room with washer and dryer. The bright and spacious kitchen is fully up-to-date with all the necessary appliances and the dining table can seat up to ten people. The house has a TV with Freeview and DVD and has telephone and Wi-Fi.
Exterior Details
The large private garden is arguably the best feature of the house as this well-kept garden is situated in the very middle of some of the best landscape of the Dorset countryside. The trees, bushes and hedges of the garden afford guests their privacy without taking away from the incredible views of the surrounding countryside. The sun loungers and outdoor chairs with table mean that you don’t have to leave your seat to enjoy the sights on offer. Some guests may choose to spend most of their holiday in this very place! A hot tub provides another great place to relax but for those with more energy, a trampoline and a games room with table tennis and table football is on hand for further fun. The outdoor table and chairs will be the place for everyone to gather when it’s drinks time or when guests decide to make use of the gas barbecue which the house provides. It will take the very worst of English weather to make you want to leave this most beautiful of English gardens.
Conditions of Rental
The deposit is 25% of the total rent. Bed linen, towels and dressing gowns for adults are provided. Beds will be made up for you when you arrive. Please bring your own linen for the cot. The towels must not be taken to the beach or used in the hot tub, so please bring your own for this purpose. Heating, electricity and wi-fi is also included in the price. Essential items for the kitchen including tea, coffee, sugar, tea towels, cleaning products, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, etc are also provided. We provide a welcome hamper which consists of essentials including; milk, bread, butter, eggs and cereal.
